Trunk Bay, St. John. Best day of the week to go

Happy holidays everyone,

We are traveling to St. John for 9 nights in March. We have heard that Trunk Bay is not to be missed, but that the crowds can be horrendous usually when cruise ships are docked at St. Thomas. We have also heard that the birds are aggressive and will steal your food right out of your hands. Does anybody know what day of the week is best for visiting Trunk Bay (i.e when are the non cruise ship days of the week)? Does anybody know of a good website to order travel size snorkel fins as my current fins don't fit well in my luggage. Thanks for your help. Happy New Year!

Here is a link to the cruise ship schedules. You will have to wait until it gets closer to March to find out. I don't think there are very many days that ships aren't in port during high season. You should just pick a day that has the fewest. Really, the key is just to get there very early in the morning before the day trippers arrive. When it gets crowded, just head to another beach. Even on a crowded day, it's not that bad.

I don't think you will have a problem with the seagulls on the beach. They hang out by the snack bar area. One trip they were rather aggressive when people were walking away with their food. The last visit they weren't bad at all.

I agree with the previos post above. What we do to enjoy Trunk Bay is we pick the day with the least ships plus we hit the beach no later than 8:00 in the am. It is a great time for Trunk. You will virtually have the entire beach to yourselves. Day trippers start arriving around 10:00am. By this time you have had a couple of great hours of time to yourselves for pictures, snorkling, or just relaxing.

We got there early (about 8) and didn't have to pay and money and had the whole left side (if you're on the beach looking at the water) for about 2.5 hours. When the crowds came, we left.

It's beautiful.

Thanks brenandg, VillaBob and mah1980 for your help. We will use the web site and plan on getting up early on the day we choose to visit Trunk Bay. Thanks.
