trip to Havana

HI
We are off to Jibacoa in December and was wondering how much and is the trip to Havana worth it.

Thanks

I don't know the exact cost of the organized Havana tour, but you can also just rent a cab and driver (English Speaking) for about 100 CUC for the whole day and he'll drive you around as a private tour guide and show you the stuff and wait for you.

Here is a website for the Cubanacan (tour company) for their Varadero excursion to give you an idea of what types of tours are available.

As to Havana, it is definately a MUST SEE for a trip to Cuba. Check out my website for photos and descriptions from my many trips to Havana.

Personally, if you don't get to Havana, you haven't really seen the best of Cuba. IMHO. But then again, I admit to being a Havana junkie.

You can also get lots of great Cuba travel information and message many people who actually stay and love Jibacoa at this website.

Just follow the titles to the Caribbean forums, then the Cuba forum. I'm on there as Steve_YYZ.

Havana is interesting in itself, and seeing it first hand is invaluable in understanding the intracasies of the US-Cuba problem. ((*))

We just back from Varadero two weeks ago. We spent 1 1/2 days in Havana. We got a private guide via the internet who was excellent-four hour tour of old Havana. The guide was excellent and had some interesting comments on the political situation We stayed in a Casa Particulare (B&B) for 30 Cuc night. We loved Havana and we want to go back. Next time we will rent a call and tour the island for two/three weeks.

A trip to Havana, at least for one day, is definitely worth it, especially if you're already so close. In such a small place, there is so much to see: the charming Habana Vieja which is a world aways from the resorts (despite all the tourists), the revolutionary plazas and museums, the cheap and delicious ice cream (Coppelia), the book fairs for Spanish literature enthusiasts, the Malecon; the list really does go on...

One caveat, be careful when booking with Cubanacan. Based on some anecdotal experience, their excursions can sometimes have hidden costs and be misleading. Make sure you get written proof of what is included in any package and that there is no ambiguity or you might end up with the short end of the stick with no hope of a refund.

Otherwise, in my experience, Havana is a bustling, safe, friendly and fascinating city with tons to offer. Enjoy!
