TRIP REPORT: Turks and Caicos (Providenciales)

My first time to Turks and Caicos and it was heavenly. We stayed from June 7-14 at the Somerset on Grace Bay. I would return in a heartbeat. The beach here is uncrowded, pure white sand, the water is as clear as a swimming pool with nothing in it- no seaweed, no jellyfish, no debris, no fish, even! Very calm and shallow water. My kids normally hate the ocean and they couldn't get enough of the ocean here (they are 6 and 8). The Somerset is beautiful- we stayed in the Stirling house ocean view villa and it was beautiful- high end appliances, HUGE master suite and bath, gorgeous views (room 302), beautiful furnishings and gorgeous interior. The continental breakfast was a bit of a joke- pastries and fruit only, but everything else there we loved. We rented a car and made a few trips to the nearby grocery store and had several meals in our kitchen. The resort had a beach BBQ on Tuesday- wonderful food, DJ, dance floor, lots of fun. Food on the island here is expensive, so be prepared. We also went to Taylor Bay- highly recommended. And did some snorkeling at Smith's Reef and the Bight Reef. Smith's Reef is larger and less crowded, with more coral, but we saw more fish at the Bight Reef (AKA Coral Gardens).

I was sad to see that the interior of the island is so poorly maintained- lots of trash everywhere.

But other than that, I loved our stay there.

So happy that you loved The Somerset! It is the best resort on the Island....You are right about the breakfast but, it is enough for us as we are not big breafast people. Love the staff too!
