Trip Report Photos

I love the photos that Fodorites include with their trip reports. How come so many leave out the photos (or maybe don't take phots) that include themselves? Privacy concerns? Just curious.

The one time I posted pictures (Aruba), I left out mug shots. Probably privacy concerns based on habit, not that anyone would recognize me. Have you posted any? ((*))

I just posted some that we took while in T&C. There are a couple of hubby. My reasons aren't for privacy so much as I figured people probably wanted to see the location moreso than the two old farts were there to see it.

I'm also more interested in seeing the locale. I've seen some shots of people's feet as they lounge in a seaside beach chair and I really don't need to know what their toes look like.

That's just my take.

I debated long and hard before posting pictures that showed us. At the end of the day, if I'm on a public beach with a bunch of strangers, etc.. What's the difference?
I make a conscious effort not to show a bunch of pics of us. Like who really cares? But I do know that I don't mind putting a face to some of the Fodorites and that seeing a few pics of them is great for me. So I assume that some other Fodorites feel the same way.

I do make sure to take pics of the hotel, the room, the beach, the island, etc.. because I don't really trust professional websites (like hotel sites). I think amateur photos really tell the story. It helps me decide where to go and I hope my pics help others in their decision making.

I love that Trip Advisor lets people post pics with their hotel reviews. Biggest pet peeve though, people post their blurry photos! Why?! And people who post photos but there are none of the beach!! You're in the Caribbean, how can you NOT post a picture of the beach where you're staying at??!! :-D

Jed: Yes, CaribbeanSoul has posted pics. Once of his wife on the beach in Negril. Another time of him holding his newly born adorable twins.

Chase: That is funny....two old farts!

Jed: My latest trip report was back in Dec 2005, and no I did not. I have posted pictures of myself with my newborn twins back in July. I think it is nice to see what other Fodorites look like...but I understand the privacy issues. Everyone is uptight about that.

I guess we're just the opposite, we have a picture site where we've posted our wedding, honeymoon and vacation pictures since 2000. The site includes hotel, rooms, grounds, sites, beaches, excursions, Islands and plenty of pictures of us. :)

I love looking at other people vacation shots as much as I love sharing ours. I think it a great service to provide to others that are planning a vacation. After so many years of posting and reading reviews, I really don't give too much value to a review if it doesn't include pictures especially reviews that are negative.

Here's our pic page if anyone is interested:

So what is wrong with old farts? When we were young farts with little fartlets we had no time and even less money to travel...now we enjoy being old farts with both time and money to enjoy our adventures! Long live old farts!

Curt: LOL! Well, I for one, am looking foward to being a retired old fart and travel a lot more than I do now!

Christie,

We put Jamaica so far down on our "to go" list due to all the negative info we've read/heard about for years. It was a mistake. We really enjoyed Negril. Jamaica is a beautiful Island. We did everything by guided tour, and felt very safe. We were never harrassed or asked to buy anything. We went to the local craft market and the vendors were quite polite. We had a great experience and quite the opposite of everything we've been told.

We're returning to Ocho Rios next month on our cruise and have booked a shore excursion with a local vendor. We're looking forward to it.

I hope you will eventually get to go.
