Trip Insurance

Hi all. In all my years of traveling to the Caribbean I have never purchased travel insurance (and knock on wood...have never needed it) however since our trip to Staniel Cay next August is in hurricane season and is pricey (taking the whole family), I am considering it for that trip. My question is...do they make policies just for hurricane coverage? A quick perusal of Travelguard didn't show it. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks

Some travel policies include "hurricane coverage" but you have to read the "Policy Terms" to make sure they include the specific risk you wish to insure against.

Go to www.insuremytrip.com - to compare policies sand terms.

i have used travel insurance on a couple of our trips, because of hurricane season. i purchased through my travel agent. i don't believe you can buy a weather only policy & it is not included in every plan so you should ask for it specifically.
enjoy the exumas - i can hardly wait for the trip report & photos.

I only got it once-- a combined trip Peru with Galapagos island cruise. Weather from cusco to Quito can be iffy, and if I missed my connection I would miss the entire cruise.

I go to Caribbean every summer and never considered it.

I'm not getting any for my trip to Staniel Cay. Hadn't even crossed my mind!

Let us know if you do

I haven't purchased trip insurance since I quit buying 'packages' 20+ years ago. We've had to change plans due to hurricanes a few times, the airlines let you change dates/locations without a fee. We've always gotten our deposits back from where we were booked to stay.

We've saved literally thousands of dollars over the years not buying insurance, since we travel multiple times a year.

We do, however, have an annual medical evacuation policy with Medjet.

Well for our needs, a travel insurance policy will be pretty useless. They only cover AFTER the hurricane has hit. So if we are scheduled to leave in 4 days, for example, and a storm is predicted to hit, too bad. Not covered. That is what I want it for. There is a cancel for any reason policy but that is obviously expensive and you don't even get a full refund.

I just wanted to know what the options were and now that I know, I have no interest!

Hopefully if there is an issue, as you said, Jean, the airlines and hotel will work with us.
