Travelling to Carribean in August
Due to my work scheudle, the only time I can take my vacation is in August. I am aware and concerned about the hurricane season. I was wondering if anyone has travelled anywhere in the Carribean in August and has any suggestions as to best places to go? Thanks so much.

Aruba. Because of its location, Aruba is considered to be out of the hurricane belt. While it may be technically possible for a hurricane to hit, it is extremely rare and unlikely compared to the other islands. It is a common hurrican season destination for this very reason. The beach is great, many good restaurants, and some nightlife also.

I second Aruba - also, rule of thumb Hurricane season typically effects the months ending in "R" (Sept, Oct, Nov, & early Dec)....of course, we had the weird year in 2005 when they started in June.
Try vacationexpress.com or funjetvacations.com & they might have some package deals from your area.

I would suggest that in addition to the ABC islands and Grenada that you also consider Barbados. It's relatively easy to get to with lots of nonstops from the US and easy connections from most major airlines.
It's not as lush or mountainous as Grenada, but it's far more atractive than arid and flat Aruba. It has spectacular beaches and an interesting vibe that is strong in both British and West Indian flavour.
