Traveling with kids & mother-in-law. Suggestions for island/hotel/b&b?

We are looking to travel to the Caribbean between Christmas & New Years. My wife & I, our two (young) children and my mother-in-law. We are looking for thoughts on islands, but also particular places to stay that might put us in the same room/villa, etc. at a reasonable price.

Reasonable price and Christmas/New years usually do not go together..it is the MOST expensive time to travel. What is your budget per night for lodging ? How many nights? Some places have minimum stays during that period.
If you consider Turks and Caicos there are many options as MOST resorts on the popular Grace Bay are condos . In your case a 3 bedroom would work out fine or a 2 bedroom with a sofa bed in the living room.

Define reasonable! Too vague to know what you mean!
Christmas and New Years is the most expensive time period, and many places additionally have minimum nights.

so a few questions to help you

Budget! (and let us know if it's only for room nightly, or air, excursions, food, etc)

How many rooms?

What things do you like when traveling? Have you been to any islands and what you liked or disliked?

Active or relaxing?

ages of the kids?

Foodies? or cook on vacation?

where are you coming from?

what activities do you like? shopping? eating out? hiking? water sports?

Pools important or beach enough?

There are many islands to choose from, all with different personalities, so you have to help us to help you!

I'll toss out a few more questions:

Where are you starting from (home airport)?

Are you looking for an All-Inclusive or independent stay?
