travel through miami or san juan
Flying from Washington DC on American Airlines - safer/more predictable to fly through Miami or San Juan?
I, personally, would rather go through SJU. They speak more English there than MIA....
While I'm being a bit flip, MIA is my least favorite airport, and chaos is the operative word there as endlessly ongoing construction wreaks havoc on an already-bad situation. If something happens and my flights are delayed or I miss a connection, I'd rather be "stuck" in San Juan than Miami, and have found myself scheduling extra days there at the beginning and/or end of my Caribbean trips because I enjoy it. |
SJU hands down. We just flew through MIA and - what a mess!!! It was always best to do a long layover at MIA but the temporary tunnels and security passes they have are astounding. I'm sure it will get better - that's why it is a mess now. Actually, it depends on where you are flying to and what kind of plane you want. AA flies 737 out of MIA to Grand Cayman and St. Kitts. The interisland flights out of San Juan are ATRs. I'd personally choose SJU over MIA.

I'd have to agree with that. I've always found it easier to connect in San Juan (many fewer delays and the airport is just smaller). But I have no love for the San Juan airport itself.

San Juan.
San Juan for the same reasons everybody else has posted. I'd have to have a significantly better itinerary to choose MIA over SJU.
San Juan, especially considering AA in MIA. Way too many Miami airport stories, amusing only with the passage of time...lots of time.
hate to pile on miami but i pick sju over mia every time.
MIA... Not!! :-D SJU hands down for us. So much easier.
Y'all know the Jimmy Buffett song "Math Sucks"? Just substitute Miami for math and you'll find out the way I feel about MIA.
I hate maimi too. There's one restroom for about 10 gates and the line is always out the door! Argh
