Travel Dilemma--Need Seasoned Traveler Help

Hi! My boyfriend and I are planning a vacation for February and were wondering where we could go that is nice, but a bit more exotic than the Bahamas or Jamaica. We are looking to spend between 150-250 a night for hotel room but want it to be fairly nice. Also we don't want to be totally isolated with absolutely nothing to do since we'll be there for 7 days. Suggestions?

You might find something in that price range in Tortola. Remember, that's the height of the high season & things book quickly then.

Relatively unaffected by Wilma, the Tulum-south area of Yucatan and a stay at ZAMAS on the beach -- plus a few night's at a 19th cen. hacienda/finca/estate in the Merida area might prove an interesting and plenty exotic combination. Fly into Cancun, rent a car/insurance or get
a private driver and same for the two legs of your trip.

I second the recommendation for Tortolla. Lush island with some culture. You could also take day trips (via ferry, relatively inexpensive) to other surrounding islands in the BVI chain. We opted to stay at a villa a few years ago. Check out Long Bay hotel, should be in your price range. Another recommendation would be Marriott in Curacao. Nice hotel, reasonably priced and on a good beach. Lots of restaurants etc.

Thanks! Zamas looks AMAZING. Do any of you have any experience traveling in that area and any suggestions of day trips or things to do while there? Also, what are your thoughts on Guadaloupe?

En route to Tulum, COBA Mayan site and XEL-HA snorkeling lagoon. Tulum site is heavily tourbus but markets have great kitschy souvenirs...Playa del Carmen
is very developed, tho Hotel DeSeo is worth a night's stay. Head toward Chetumal past Tulum -- the further, the less touristic.

Marie Galante and Isles des Saintes are low-key, French, relatively unknown but more travel time distance....

Also, (sorry to ask so many questions) what are the differences between Tortola and say, Guadaloupe or Marie-Galante---what is the nightlife like on them and how developed are they? We're looking for places that aren't overrun with cruise ships, but admittedly, while Nevis looks lovely, we think we may get a bit restless at an island like that. Thanks for all of your help!
