travel between islands

can anyone advise how easy/cheap it is to travel between various islands.

Depending on where you go, it can be quite easy.

Unfortuantly, prices fluctuate. Best to ask your travel agent...if working with one.

But i can tell you how easy it is:

I know that St. Martin/St Maarten has regular travel to and from: Saba, Anguilla, and St Barts.

Trinidad and Tobago, of course, have regular ferry services.

I'm sure the Bahamas have some really wonderful day trips as well.

Pretty much if the islands are really close by, then most likely there's a boat you can take to get there!

But if you're actually looking to do some exstensive Island hopping while in the region, say Jamaica to Guadeloupe, then it's going to be by plane...and of course be higher in cost.

Most likely, while staying at your hotel/guest house/resort, there will be a Charter Service that comes with the property's recomendation. The Concierge/Host will most likely be able to make arrangements for you as well!

Hi carole! I agree with NY that it can be cheap, depending on which islands! For example ferries connect the USVI and the BVI's (check out bviwelcome.com/ferries ) and the fares are very reasonable. Anguilla and St. Martin are also connected by ferries.

Other options include to fly between islands - check out www.liatairline.com and www.airalm.com - they both have airpasses that allows you to hop between islands.

Good luck!

Thanks for all your help. We were actually thinking of staying a few days or week on barbados then a few days on St lucia and maybe a few days on grenada. We tend to get bored if we spend long in one place (although we seemed to be the longest staying couple on phiphi island thailand with a six night stay!) but would also like to see different islands. In your opinion would these islands be a good choice?

Check the airfares on Liat, BWIA and American Airlines web sites, and you will get a idea of what the prices are. I just looked on Liat.com and found the fare between SLU and BGI in Augst to be 141.50 r/t.
