Travel between airports in St Lucia

May need to fly in to St Lucia on Delta and on to Barbados on LIAT. It is my understanding that we will need to get from Hewanorra Airport (UVF)to George FL Charles Airport (SLU).

Any help with the logistics on this would be appreciated. (Time, cost, how to get there)

Thanks,
mhc

Should take 45 mins to an hour to get between airports unless it's rush hour. Nice drive as you'll get to see lots of the island. Not sure of the cost as I drove myself, but the StL Tourist Board should be able to help you. You can find them here:

It's not cheap ... probably $50 to $60 minimum. I"m not sure if you can book by the taxi or if they insist on a per-person price. I'd guess the trip takes over an hour, though.

This is not a good connection at all. You are definitely going to waste an entire day on this trip, though I'm sure you have your reasons.

It might be more to your advantage to take Delta to another island (perhaps Puerto Rico), where there are connecting flights.

"Nice Drive" - this ride will scare the bee gee gees out of you. The ride goes over several mountains and does so by continually doing sharp cutbacks across the mountain. Guardrails? You'll have a better chance of seeing a shark on the road.

Scariest ride I have ever had.

Hope you have a good cab driver.

Good Luck!

KAS,

Perfect description! Gave me flashbacks of a drive around the Northeast shore of Maui.

No sharks, but some of the largest bulls I'm ever seen.

Kids love to replay the videotapes of Mom whimpering. Amazing views from my couch.

Never in a taxi!

Thank heavens Doug suggested a connection that only requires maneuvering around the Antigua airport.

The ride will probably take closer to 1-1/2 hours than 45 minutes. Unlike some other posters, I don't think that it is a very scary ride.

There is helicopter service between the two if you want to spend the money.

Helicopter sounds like fun, but may be too costly for a group of 5.

Dropped flights have caused us to lose the first and last day of a trip to Barbados. (Delta FF miles)

We were told we could re-book to a nearby island for those days and purchase the Barbados leg.

St Lucia was an option, but the aiport change is a hindrance.

Thanks so much.

mhc, I have done the ride you describe on Maui, this is worse. Maui generally keeps you level and narrow, this is back and forth and up and down the mountain and also narrow!

mhc--if anyone in your group has a tendency towards motion sickeness, make sure they take something; we did not have to do this drive, but the family we traveled with did and several of them got really carsick.

Good luck!

At least 2 of our 5 do have problems with motion sickness, so I realy appreciate the warning.

Hi Mhc,
I did this trip two weeks ago. Dominic2 is correct. We used a local operator named Spice Travel who provided a new, luxurious leather-seated Land Cruiser for each couple. I do not know what the price was as it was included in the overall cost of the vacation.
