Tortola, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico or Provo?
 

Okay guys, here goes. Hubby and I have only 4 days to go somewhere. I'm looking for something with a real "island feel" to it. Not deserted, but not crowded. Since we only have a few days, I'd like somewhere quaint to explore for a day, and a nice beach or snorkel trip for a day. Hubby would prefer a casino - but that doesn't fit with quaint - which is what I'm looking for. Puerto Rico sounded appealing with a day trip to Culebra, TCI sounds okay - they have a casino, but is there anything to explore? Oh yeah, beach bars are a plus. We love to sit and eat/drink by the water. And the other factor is trying to get from Oklahoma to the chosen place and not wasting the entire first day flying. I realize Tortola doesn't have any casinos, but it looks wonderful. Any input is appreciated. Thanks! Cammie

Try St. Croix! It's as quaint and laid back as you can get. Has a casino, beaches, beach bars, and great restaurants!<BR>Ronnie

Cammie, come to Provo. The beaches are stunning and there are two snorkel reefs directly off the beach. There are lots of ocean side restaurants and places to have a Corona. Don't worry about our one Casino, as it is only a one nights outing at best. People are friendly and Provo is only a short one hour hop out of Miami. You will definetly want to stay on Grace Bay and there is lots of water tours and places to explore. Perfect holiday to relax and enjoy. No crowds.

You might like Provo in T & C--beautiful beaches. Try having a drink at the Tiki Bar at the Turtle Cove Inn, Sharkbite Restaurant, Happy Hour at Hey Jose and at the Banana Boat--try them all! Water is so clear it's transparent--hard to beat. It's not lush like Tortola but the flight time should be shorter.<BR>Also the Abaco Beach Resort & Boat Harbour, Abaco Bahamas--laid back atmosphere, tennis, swim up bar, lots of water activities. You may have to fly into Nassau and then take BahamasAir to Abaco. Avoid staying in Nassau!

Orient Beach is a beautiful beach in french St. Martin--stay at an intimate hotel like the L'Hoste Hotel. There are six beach bars scattered along the beach that are quite fun and serve good food especially the one by the Esmeralda Resort. Drive over to the Dutch side and gamble during the afternoon. There are excellent restaurants at Grand Case and Marigot. You can dine by a pool at the Astrolabe Restaurant at Esmeralda.

Cammie,<BR> I have been to all Islands you mentioned except T&C. Tortola, though my personal fav,will be quite a trip. Puerto Rico, on the other hand is usually easy to reach. I love the Hyatt Dorado. My stepmom loves the Wyndham El Conq. There's plenty to do there- as little or as much as you want.

Looks like San Juan SJU with a day trip to Culebra.<BR><BR>Have been to Tortola but you need to transfer either via air from SJU or Ferry to Tortola from STT. Coming from OK you would probably have to add a day because of travel time.<BR><BR>I am sure Puerto Rico has some great out of the way hotels on the beach <BR><BR>

Horned Doset Primavera on PR is great. It's on the west side of the island, about a 2-3 hour drive from San Juan. Tortola is also wonderful; you may enjoy St. Thomas if you like more activity and shopping -- it's pretty well developed. I know I'm in the minority, but I did *not* like Provo, and did find it to have a "deserted" feel.
