tortola activity

I heard there is a rainforest on tortola. Is that true and do they have zip lines and things like that? I am looking for an island that would have great beach but also interesting culture or nature.

There is a rain forest-y area on Tortola, when you take the hike to the top of Mt. Sage, the highest peak in the BVI. But as far as related amenities go, there is a parking area, a few trails, and a marker at the peak -- nothing in the way of ziplines or the like.

The BVI are an appealig destination, with beautiful beaches, but there are not many cultural attractions. Some botanical gardens, modest shopping, a rum distillery to tour, etc.

For more "culture" to go with your rain forest and beaches, I would suggest Grenada.

The thing about the BVI is that it is under-developed. The main activity is sailing, with some good diving, kiteboarding, windsurfing, surfing. Sun, sand and sea and not much else. That's pretty much how we like it.

I second the underdeveloped comment about the BVI. I love the place, but it is primarily oriented to the sailing population. What about Puerto Rico? Good beaches, 500 year old cities, and a rain forest with a zipline.

Have you looked at Jamaica? It has what you're looking for: ziplines, interesting culture, nature, great beaches. Lots to do there with a variety of accommodations to suit every taste.

The BVIs are pretty laid back and quiet.
