topless bathing at St. Lucia?

I have heard many wonderful things about the beaches and the island looks beautiful. My fiance and I are planning a honeymoon for next summer, and St. Lucia is a favorite. <BR>Is topless bathing common?

We were told that nudity, including topless sunbathing, is illegal on St. Lucia and that it is considered offensive there. However, when we were there, there were one or two European women on the beach at Anse Chastanet who went topless and no one said anything to them. The beach was pretty uncrowded and condusive to privacy though so it's possible that it was just that noone noticed. We never saw anyone topless on the beach at the Hilton, nor at the pool at Ladera. My impression was that it is not common there.

If the people who live there find it offensive, then it is inconsiderate to do it.
