Top Caribbean Destinations: Readers Choice Polls, Conde Nast Traveler 2003

A new set of lists were just printed by CN Traveler. Always controversial, but supposed to represent the opinions of over 30,000 independent travelers (albeit a biased population, as CNT readers are not 'joe average traveler'). I tend to disagree with many of the rankings each year.

But this info provides a platform for comparison or debate.

8 Turks and Caicos 68.2
9 Anguilla 68.1
10 Cayman Islands 67.2

8 Petit St. Vincent Resort, St. Vincent & the Grenadines 85.8

Aruba Marriott (hotel & casino ppty.) is consistently over-rated. The place does not even rate a "3 star". Rooms are musty & dated. Buy new bedspreads! Clean the area carpets! Buy new window coverings! New sheets! New pillows! And....new mattresses instead of those "foam slabs". Put screens on the windows/doors! Service is the worst we have ever encountered. Room service, restaurant service. Both really bad. Pool is small relative to the size of the hotel. The beach is exquisite but for that Marriott can hardly take credit!

It seems they keep posting the same old, same old hotels. Nothing changes because I'm not sure they venture out enough to see what else is out there. There are several that we have stayed at that are just average.

It would be facinating to correlate this list of "top resorts" with the advertising lineage that each of these resorts has bought and paid for in CN Traveler in the past year. And how this would compare to the ad revenue generated by those lower resorts that didn't make the list.

Yes, there is a certain correlation
with advertising, write ups etc. I always am a bit surprised at the CN's
readers, I too question the sample, thus the results. TedTurner said it all-a platform for a debate!
