Too Windy at Wyndham Aruba?
I am hearing that the beach at The Wyndham Aruba is incredibly windy which makes it uncomfortable to sit on. Am trying to plan a family reunion for Christmas week ( note to self: WHY??) and would love to hear comments about the resort in general and its beach. Thanks so much!

We didn't stay at the Wyndham, but we were in Aruba last week. We stayed at the Radisson. It was VERY windy, but we liked it. It kept you from getting too hot, and some days were more windy than others. It didn't bother us at all on the beach, especially when we were under the palapas.

Thanks, beachgirl86! We were in Aruba a few years ago and remembered the whole island as being a really windy place, but my mother-in-law insists that the beach at The Wyndham is a problem.

I agree with the comments that have been made...it is windy no matter where you are in Aruba!
Happy planning! |
That is Palm beach isn't it? I think so. We were there and yes its windy but there was no issue about it. its not uncomfortable. Go to this site for a complete weather survey of the island. www.arubahouse.com. I am not affiliated with the seller and if you scroll down you will see the weather chart I am referring to.

I have heard the beach at the Wyndam is windier than most. The reason is it juts out more than the others. The Marriott was a great resort and is located at the end of the strip and seems less windy. The Holiday inn is next door and less expensive.
We stayed at the Marriott and really enjoyed it. It was windy but not uncomfortable at all. I was worried about it, but we never had an issue with it at all. My mother stayed at the Wyndam many years ago when it was another hotel name and she said the sand blew up and stung her in the face. We did not have that at the Marriott. |
Thanks to everyone for the info!To girlonthe go: We stayed at The Marriot when we visited Aruba a few years ago, and also really enjoyed it, but it's just gotten way too expensive around Christmas time!

My husband and I stayed at the Wyndham in 2000. Although I liked certain things about the hotel (clean, stylish room, hammocks on the beach) the memory that sticks out the most is the wind blowing the sand all over my body and into my face. We tried lounging on the beach only a couple of times and immediately fled to the pool to escape the uncomfortable and annoying sand blizzard. I'm glad to know that perhaps other hotels in Aruba don't have this problem.

We have stayed at the Wyndham, The Grand, LaCabana and the Manchebo.
The Wyndham has, by far, the windiest beach. They say it's because of the way the hotel faces, that the wind whips around. |
The Wyndham's location does make it the windiest of the hotels on Palm Beach, but we spent some time on their beach and didn't find it uncomfortable. The breeze is welcome when it's 90 degrees out. (But DO realize that the constant breeze disguises how hot the sun is -- so you may not realize you're getting burnt!)
We stayed at the Radisson (a few hotels down the beach) and loved it. Not sure what the price difference would be, but the Radisson is widely regarded as one of the two best hotels on Palm Beach (along with the Hyatt next door). |
Thanks everyone for the great info! I guess my mother-in-law was right about The Wyndham having an especially windy beach. We'd love to stay at The Radisson, but their rates are $175 more per night than The Wyndham during the Christmas week!

Enjoy your trip, no matter what. I had the same experience as beachgirl86. It was quite hot during the day and wind was nice at the Radisson. Maybe keep watching for a good deal - I enjoyed the hotel.

Stayed at the Wyndham Aruba back in 1999. Liked everything about Aruba except for the constantly blowing wind, which was VERY annoying and the main reason we have not returned since our last visit. Forget about laying on the beach at the Wyndham unless you want sand blowing in your face the whole time.

jett,
I agree with you about Aruba. We were last there in 2002, and liked everything about it except the wind which drove us off the beach at times. And since we're beach bums, that was not too much fun! |
