I'm wondering the same thing. I hope he is OK too.

I'm sure he won't be able to respond for several days. No service out there, but all news reports and eye-witness accounts from stormcarib.com so far have said that the East Enders are all okay. Property damage is still a problem though.

I've wondered about Tom, as well, with what all is going on in the Caymans in the aftermath of Ivan. He isn't there right now, is he? I thought he lived in the US, but had interests and/or property there. Hopefully we hear from him soon.

Tom lives in Grand Cayman, I met him on our last vacation. Nice guy, I hope and pray that all is well with his family and the Beautiful Reef Resort. We have reservations there in January. It is our favorite spot.

The site is updated as the info comes in. God bless the Cayman Islands!

My first thought when I heard of the devastation was Tom Cayman as well. Has anyone heard? Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and the other residents of the Caymans as they work through this terrible time.

Haven't heard anything about Tom, but we did get some horrible news this evening from Jim Andrews who owns Cayman Dive Lodge and is the only owner in our North Pointe 10 unit condominium complex (on North Side near our beloved and lost Driftwood)who lives on the island. He said both were totally destroyed.

To CaymanSue,
Was your condo totally destroyed? After hearing news about the Driftwood, I was afraid North Pointe might have major damage. Do you have any info on the Retreat?? I'm not getting much info about it. Are you going down soon? We're suppose to be going late October and I'm wondering if we'll be able to?
Any info you have regarding the north side would be appreciated.
Sandy

Sandy,
I will e-mail you with the report I received that details some info on the Retreat. I am scheduled to go down on Oct 10, but doubt that they will be allowing non-essential people by then.

Have you checked on stormcarib.com ?

Actually we have been in phone contact all day with Frank at the Driftwood. Although the bar is gone, the cottages are still standing, and, miracle of miracles, no one stole the bottles of booze littering the ground. They have insurance and the Driftwood will rise from the rubble! At North Pointe, the news is either good or bad, depending on which unit you own. 100 (ours) 101, 200 and 201 are intact. We didn't even have water! Since the roof came off 202,203 and 204, they are a mess as are the units below them, 102, 103 and 104. Our renters spend the duration in the shelter and were happy to return to a dry bed Harv's Kai, even without power and water. We are trying to get generators shipped down now.

I saw a posting on another website from a captain at ocean frontiers. they have some flooding but generally are OK. Not everyone else on east end was so lucky.

CaymanSue Sep 15th, 2004 05:06 PM

One of the owners at North Pointe is also the owner of Cayman Dive Lodge in East End. That was pretty much a total loss. also his condo at Ocean Club was lost. Our prayers to Jim and Kim!
