Tipping in St. Kitts

Hello, everyone!

I'm wondering about tipping the housekeeping staff at the Marriott in St. Kitts. Is it OK to tip using US currency or is it better to use EC?

Thanks!

You can leave tips in either currency. $US is widely accepted on the island. Locals use both currencies in their daily transactions.

Just got back from there and we tipped in US. They were very pleased. Beware....most bills in restaurants add 10%, so it's up to you to do more or not.

They prefer US trust me. I had a table tip the staff 100 US one night and I was going to change it into EC so it would split easier. All wanted US.

Here is why:

Here in Nevis it isn't easy for a local to get US currency for travel when going abroad. They have to buy it at the bank and it is very expensive for them. Most will take the US as tips and never put it in a bank, save it so when they travel they have it. So note to everyone. Use $US for tipping, they will love ya for it. :)
