Tip for Limo Driver

What is proper when a hotel provides limo service to/from their property. We'll stay at Villa Nova (Barbados), and it's already very expensive. Is it proper to tip, and if so, what would be a good amount?

Thanks everyone.

If the driver provides any extra service then a tip would be appropriate.

If you get any replies I'd like to know. We'll be doing something like that soon and I want to do what's right.

Cindy,
Yes, you should always tip the limo driver. They are just like a waitress who counts on tips as part of their pay. Depending on how long the drive is to and from the property, might decide how much to tip, and if the driver does extras for you. We always take a limo to the airport when we travel, and tip 20% of what the fee is to the driver. Since the hotel is providing your transfer, I would give the driver at least $20.
Sandy

No, no, no, Sandy.

You're referring to a private limo which contracts individually.
Cindy is referring to a courtesy shuttle/limo provided by the hotel.
The two are vastly different.
In the case of Villa Nova, this is not a luxury limo with plush interior, etc.
It's a shuttle.
And while a tip of $2-5 is a nice gesture, $20 would be the equivalent of paying $100 for a hamburger at the pool's bar.

While maybe not a plush limo, I believe it's a luxury property and the offer a luxury service (possibly a Land Rover) -- not your ordinary taxi. That's why I'm wondering what might be proper.

In the islands the people that serve you depend on and hope for a little extra. This is not the USA where there is a minimum wage. It is your call and there is no proper or not proper, but what is a few bucks if you are already spending thousands? Do what you feel is right in yourself. The ones with most money in this world most often expect everything for nothing. Decent people recognize that there are others in the world and they are considerate. You must be decent since you are concerned.
