Timothy Beach Resort St Kitts

We live in the UK and have come across a fantastic deal for 7 nights in Timothy Beach Resort St Kitts for May 2016. Am trying to get a feel as to whether the location will suit my husband and I, both late 50s. I get the sense it's a "lively, party" area in South Frigate Bay. Whilst we are not decrepit,, we don't want to be in a location where we feel totally out of place and the wrong generation! We realise we don't have to be a prisoner in the resort and would probably hire a car and vist the environs. We like walking, cycling, restaurants and visiting historical sites. Am I being optimistic that we will "fit in" or should we consider ourselves "fish out of water" and go somewhere else?! Thanks.

May is "Low Season" in the Caribbean and St. Kitts is no exception so it won't be very crowded at the Timothy Beach Resort and the surrounding area won't feel like a "lively party". At that time of the year it will be rather quiet.

The resort is within walking distance of at least a dozen restaurants and beach bars, the Marriott Resort, a number of condo complexes, a golf course, a few shops and beaches on both the Atlantic and Caribbean side of the Frigate Bay area.

Walking and biking around Frigate Bay is easy because it is relatively flat but if you want to venture outside Frigate Bay walking and biking may not be your best option as the rest of the island can be quite hilly.

Because of distances, you'll need transportation (rental car or taxi) to visit historical sites, the main town of Basseterre, other beaches around the island and just about all the major points of interest around the island. Buses are not a viable option as they do not serve the Frigate Bay area nor anywhere on the southern peninsula (where most of the better beaches are located).

As far as the "generation" gap is concerned it's not really an issue. You'll find your fellow tourists will range from newlyweds to "nearly deads" and everything in-between. There's no reason you'll feel like a prisoner at the resort.

Based on my experience, RoamsAround is a real expert on St Kitts and many of the other islands in the Caribbean, so what he says is exactly accurate. He has given me great advice for our trips to St Kitts.

It would be interesting to know how much of a bargain was offered to you. Have you checked the cost of other places on St Kitts? We have stayed at Timothy's twice, Ocean Terrace once and Marriot once. Each has positives and negatives.

There are a variety of options at Timothy's, from studios to two bed room apartments on different levels and with different views. Check their regular prices at that time of year for what you are considering. Your package may be a fantastic deal, but it doesn't hurt to look into it for sure.

Hi both
Have been offline for a few days so apologies for delay in acknowledging your really helpful responses. Will look into the advice you give in more detail. Many thanks.

RoamsAround is the source for the Caribbean and I totally agree with what he has said....
It's been a while since my last trip to St. Kitts (but I've been going since before the Marriott was built), and I still enjoy staying at Timothy's. I go there for work and it was quite laid back. I usually spend 3 weeks in May, July and September. The people at Timothy's are great.
To give you an idea how empty the hotel was in typical May--Saturdays were my worse day to get rest because housekeeping would come too early and I would tell them to go to the other rooms and come back when they were finished...a few minutes later they were back. I found out that all 11 rooms that were occupied said the same thing and when they finished they could go home, so we were preventing an early exit day for them. :-)
I always rented a car - an SUV, which was the size of a tiny Jeep, you'll want it because a mid-size car equated to my suitcase with wheels. You will need this.
You can drive the entire island's perimeter in about an hour. Very relaxing place.
