Timothy Beach Resort

Just returned from TBR,and I want to advise
anyone planning to stay at this resort must be prepared for a resort with no beach and no ammenities. Please do some research regarding your stay in St Kitts, it is really a great place and we were so disappointed with TBR. Be careful of advise regarding this resort on line, in the past it has been misleading!!!!!! But please be assured St Kitts is a wonderful
country and a great place to vacation.!!
ML,
Just wondering what the problem was...my husband & I went in July 2001 & had a great time. Room was fine & beach was too.We snorkeled everyday from the beach.Staff was also very courteous. It definitely isnt a Hyatt or a 4 star Marriott but it dosent pretend to be when you check them out on line.Sorry you didnt like the place but it does sound like you had a good time on the island.

The beach is horrible !!! No one was swimming all week, my husband did snorkel but not many fish. I knew for the price that I was not going to be at Hyatt or Marriot but I thought as per a news group that it was really a very nice resort. Our bed was made everyday and clean towels were brought in but they never cleaned the terrace
and my feet were dirty walking on the
floor after a shower. The TV was on a chair that belonged to the desk, no hook in the bathroom as it had been torn off the door. The Sunset Cafe was OK for breakfast and lunch but we ate dinner there one night and it was horrible. No one was ever around so
I am glad we had a car for the week.
This place was definately not for me however I wanted to go to St Kitts and the choices were limited in that area.
I should have done more research.
We were not the only ones that were disappointed and had I known were to go I would not have spent one night there. But we adjusted and had a great vacation. St Kitts is wonderful.
I just misunderstood was type of resort it was and was mislead as to the beaches condition.

It sounds like the place has really changed in 1 yr!! While we were there our room was kept spotless. Also snorkeling was great & we always had access to a taxi. I hope you mentioned some of your problems to the management when you checked out. I agree about the island...it is beautiful!! Have you ever been to Grenada or know someone who has?

I have never been to Genada but a couple we met in St Kitts said it was beautiful. They have the barefoot Windjamer Cruises there.

ML

Completely disagree with ML.
We were there in April and loved the place - not fancy but clean and friendly. Because of hurricanes in recent years, the beach has a rocky entry but the snorkeling was GREAT - I even saw an octopus. By the way how can ML saythere is no beach - it is about a half mile long for heaven's sake. That hardly qualifies as "no beach".
This is a small simple property but then you are also not paying big resort prices. By the way we loved the food - I am really surprised ML had a bad dinner. ML - if you did not like your room - you should have complained - when we were there one couple was not pleased with their first room - they were immediately moved.

Yes, I stand corrected there is a beach with rocks and cracked shells broken down lounge chairs and perhaps some might like hopping over a old tire to get in the water. Not my idea of a Caribbean vacation. The room was OK and there was not another I think I would have bothered to switch to. It is truely no frills no ammenities. We had a 1 bedroom ocean view. The TV was on a chair that belonged to the desk, the hook in the bathroom door was missing, the bathroom tiled floor was full of cracks, decor was dreary and they post that it was newly renovated. The entrance to the second floor was dark and closed off like going into an apartment building. And you are right they just make your bed and straighten up your room. And honestly it was my fault to have expected more but I was not the only one at the resort that was very disappointed(about the beach.) Even the local people in St Kitts say the beach was once the most beautiful beach in St Kitts. They also wished people would stop saying it still is as they have to deal with alot of disappointment when quests arrive( to include the people at Jack Tar.) The rumor is the Marriot is going to fix the beach. Originally I chose to go to ST Kitts and stay at the Marriot, one of the travel brochures stated it would open the second quarter of 2002. Not true, but this sparked my interet in St Kitts. My Travel agent could not recommend anything there so I decided to research on my own. I came up with TBR from opinions on a newsboard on a Caribbean Web site. I was very disappointed in the beach and resort but loved St Kitts, my fault I made a mistake and did not do enough research. Before arriving I thought I had found the Caribbean's best kept secret, You are right about the price and I should have realized you always get what you pay for and I will never forget it. The food at dinner was not very good but we only had a meal there the first night. My husband would not try it a second time for dinner but the breakfast and snacks/lunch were fine. We found many good restaurants all over the Island, Marshalls, Stonewalls,Ballahoo's,PJ's Pizza.
Well this is just my opinion and there are certain ammenities I need and like at a resort. You may have liked it as well as the other author but all opinions are not always positive. I only did this post to remind people to do the research and do not belive all you read !! You can be mislead. Just like you find it hard to understand why I did not like TBR or the so called beach when someone else might.

Thanks for your reply.

ML,
Been there a few times and stay in a one bedroom suite - they are lovely - but you were seeking economy I guess which is fine. To each his own, but you seem an odd bird to not have straightened out things when you were there. The staff are great and will do anything for you. Don't be so mousey on your next vacation - you deserve what you got IMHO. You just drone on and on and you could have fixed it then and there.

Anon,

Tell me how the manager at TBR might fix the beach as it was the main disappointment. Thats nature. Maybe he would have hired a new chef and changed the menufor us. I believe that was out of his control. And as far as the room as I said in my post a new room would not have changed anything. I could have changed resorts but we had a package and we thought it might be difficult to get out of as we already paid. Also I did not know were to go the first day and who want to waste vacation time invesigating. We adjusted and had a great time in St Kitts.
TBR was not a place for me but might be for others. It is only fair that people see all opinions.
I would not keep going on and on if your reply did not indicate that the resort could have changed to meet my standards. My mistake I checked in TBR's not theirs.

To be fair to ML - the beach does have a rocky entry. As I said previously, we were actually quite happy with the place but maybe our expectations were not as great - it was a wondeful bargain for us. (At least one poster I had read before our trip had commented on the rocky beach entry - so I was not surprised). Personally I liked the ambiance of the place but I like smaller caribbean hotels as opposed to big resorts so I guess it all comes down to personal preference. If Big Chain resort with many ammenities is your style you would not like this place. For me what it did have was: friendly service (the maids and not just ours always wished as Good morning, front desk allowed us to use the internet to check up on our sick pet and did not charge us (hey you only used it for a minute - no problem); Owner asked us several times if everything was OK about our stay there) The pool was nearly desserted most of the time and the monkeys visited. We could walk from one end of the resort to the other in 5 minutes (if we sauntered along) The restaurant was literally steps from the pool - yet the pool was very private and quiet.

Also, please note that there is a Marriott resort opening on St. Kitts. It is scheduled to open in Dec. 2002...

That we be great for the people of St Kitts as well as future tourist. It will create a lot of jobs and more people will be spending though out the Island.
