Timely Guide Books for Cuban Travel

Although the advice and guidance that have been relayed at this site and in this particular forum have been highly useful and valuable, I'd like to suggest that in addition to what's here that one goes to www.Amazon.com and peruse the plethora of guide books and other aids that's related to this largest of Caribbean islands. There is a good number of sources that's being provided to enhance the travels of future travelers, and along with what's provided here as well as in your carefully selected reading materials, one's trip should be a memorable one.

When I've traveled to Argentina, Brazil and to Cuba, I've asked solid questions of travelers at a few travel-related forums as well as purchased a few, carefully- selected guide sources. With my using both-- I've been a "happy traveler."

So what is your guidebook recommendation for Cuba?

A old friend of mine and long-time visitor to Cuba, writer Tom Miller, has a new one out that sounds interesting. It might be a good source of information in addition to a guidebook.

As someone who has worked on a guidebook to Cuba (Fodor's) and has written articles about the place, I'll say that the past three years have been a real roller coaster. For U.S. citizens, at least, the opening began in early 2015 and was followed by a flood of new visitors who could legally go to Cuba for the first time. Now, restrictions have been tightened again, and there's still some uncertainty about them. Keeping up with the changes is a challenge.

Any recent guidebook to Cuba is still useful in terms of background information. Reviews of sights and hotels won't change too much. The logistics of travel for U.S. citizens has changed a lot and continues to do so. That information becomes dated quickly in a way that it doesn't for most other countries. That's the caveat about any of the current guidebooks to Cuba. They're still a valuable resource, with that qualification.
