Tickets on Orbitz and luggage ?
I found decently priced tickets on Orbitz for an upcoming trip to the Bahamas. To get there and back I will take two different airlines. Will my luggage me checked all the way through to the island or will I have to check backs with each airline?
|
What are the airlines?
|
USAir to West Palm, then Continental to Marsh Harbor.
|
These two airlines are not frequent flier partners, but most airlines in the US have inter-airline baggage agreements. I'm always hesitant to change airlines, but when I went to Italy, I checked my bags on two different airlines that were not partners, and my bags arrived quite safely in both directions. Of course, that's no guarantee.
Why don't you try reposting with a title like "Two Airlines on Bahamas Flight". Some other poster may have done something like this, and the post might catch his/her eye. |
Rather thank ask here, I would call USAir and ask them if they have a codeshare agreement with Continental (I believe it may be Continental Express for that last leg). That is what would be the deciding factor I believe.
Don't forget the pig roast at Nippers on Sunday! :D |
Thanks for the info. Not that this is much of a guarantee either, but I called Travelocity and was told that my bags would be checked through. We decided to carry-on the clothes, and pray the cooler makes it all the way. Maybe we should fill the cooler with unpopular cuts of meat and lunch meats - olive loaf anyone??? :)

I guess you meant Orbitz when you said Travelocity, but either way I would call USAir, not the booking agent. Just my humble opinion of course!
Remember not to put ice in that cooler, blue ice OK and frozen solid stuff, but no "real" ice, OK? |
Thanks Joan.
Actually, I ended up getting the tickets through Travelocity, only b/c I have had very good experiences with them in the past. I will call USAir to double check. I wonder if they would let me carry-on a cooler? Probably not with all the restrictions. :( |
You would be able to carry the cooler on if it were small enough, but the blue ice would be a problem, so you wouldn't have anything to keep your meat cold. If it were me, I'd skip the meat and buy it there and just carry everything on, then no problem.
