The upcoming January 2008 weather?
I have been looking at weather.com which has predicted that 30-60% rain is predicted from now (end of Dec) thru mid-January. Any opinions on that, from current or past visitors? I have read all of the historical weather reports that mention that January usually has nice weather. But I'm not sure anymore.
Would you consider this forecast as "sunning" weather or should I expect to be ducking for cover throughout the day? A tan would be nice after a long work year. :) Thank you for for any and all comments. |
You don't say which island you are plabnning to visit but weather.com generally aleays predicts rain for most destinations in the Caribbean. If you checked the forecasts every day for a year you'd swear the sun never shines. The reality is you are going to the tropics and it will generally rain somewhere on any given island at some time during any 24 hour period. Rain is generally in the form of very brief and very localized showers and it's not unusual for it to be raining in one area and there be bright sun 1/4 mile away.
Of course, you are dealing with mother nature and there's always a chance, however slim, that you could encounter periods of prolongued rain.Your chances of getting "rained out" are slim. Leave your umbrella home, bring plenty of sunblock! |
Sorry...Tortola.

Well, the previous comments I made apply 100% in Tortola. I don't waste my time looking at weather.com as it always predict rain. Besides, even the best forcasts can only give you trends for a few days in advance - anything further out is just a guess.

I have been going back and forth in the Caribbean for 19 years and rain never made me stay home.

The Caribbean islands are paradise no matter what the weather is doing. If it rains, look for another adventure!
