The Reefs in Bermuda?
Anyone stayed in a new Pointe Suite at the Reefs? Staying there in early October and was just looking for any feedback? Also, having never traveled to Bermuda, I was wondering if i could find a local grocery store to stock up on a few things for the room like beer, wine, etc at a halfway reasonable price? Thanks for any help.

I cannot help you with The Reefs, but I can tell you about a grocery store. We always stock up on a few items on our way to our hotel, also on South Rd. a few minutes from The Reef. The excellent store, also a place to pick up rum etc. is The Modern Mart, on the bend of the road on the left just past Harmony Hall. The taxi will be glad to stop on the way, and wait. They are now open on Sundays. You will love Bermuda, South Road, its beaches and vistas are spectaular!

thanks penny, that is a relief! i'm sure i'll go broke on this trip but it's worth it. figure i'll save a little by buying some of my own rum and beer. can't wait!

There is also a little package store next to Henry VIII's, beer, rum, and I think some snacks. You will find Bermuda is a little sophisticated gem,
Hamilton a modern business center, and some of the best beaches! I go all over the caribbean, Bermuda is still on my best list! |
A suggestion on liquor - we always buy duty free when we depart Canada. (If coming from the States you may be able to do this as well) we have had no problem bringing a bottle or beer into Bermuda with us. Bermuda is expensive but once you get over the shock of paying more for most items, it really isn't that bad.
One of the best grocery stores is in downtown Hamilton - towards the Waterloo House not too far from the ferry terminal. More expensive but the choices are great. They have an extensive wine offering as well. Don't forget to purchase a bus/ferry pass for the week - best deal on the Island and a great way to get to see it. |
I think Tanya is referring to Miles Grocery Store. I like it, too. It has a good takeout.

Thank you - I can never remember the name. The first time we were in Bermuda we had difficulty purchasing certain foods - but not now as they have a substantial international component. Their takeout is great for box lunches or just to eat a sandwich on the waterfront while enjoying a cold beer (as long as you keep the beer in a paperbag).
We stay at a private residence so I bring a frozen order with me but also take along snacks such as peanuts that I can tuck in amongst my suitcase. |
this brings up another question, what is the policy on open containers? can i get a 12 pack of beer, pack it in a cooler, and go over to one of the beaches or do i need to brown bag it everywhere?

Why not bring along some plastic cups - I see no difference in drinking beer or wine from a cup and drinking an alcholic drink that is served to you at the beach from the beach bar!
