The Reefs - Bermuda 2008
I am pondering making a visit to The Reefs this fall, and I see they are currently closed for renovation (set to reopen April 1st). The pictures show extensive work being done.
Does anyone know how things are coming? Did they renoveate the cottages or the rooms or both? I can't help but notice the bedspreads in the cottages look dated, so I assume it is the cottages being renovated? Is this worth the price, and is it in a good location if we wanted to eat dinner outside the resort? Thanks in advance for all your help! :) |
ttt - Anyone been by the Reefs lately?
|
I haven't been by lately, so I gave them a call this morning. The nice girl I spoke with said that the majority of the work is happening in the public areas. She was pretty certian that the rooms/cottages were just getting fresh paint and touchups.
The Reefs is in Southampton, which is a bit of a taxi drive or bus ride in to Hamilton if you wanted a selection of restaurants to choose from for dinner. I'm thinking close to 25 minutes by the time you got to town. There are a few restaurants on the way in to town, but it depends on what you're looking for? |
I am glad txgirlinbda has provided an update on the construction going on at the Reefs. When I was there in Dec. it looked like it might not be finished by April 1.
The Reefs offers a dine around option with meals at Pompano and Cambridge Beaches as alternatives. Nearby restaurants are Henry VIII, the Swizzle Inn, the Newport Room at the Fairmont Southhampton. |
Thanks Txgirl and Cmcfong. I definately want to go to Bermuda but I am still deciding where to stay. Another problem is that I am coming from Charlotte, and there are no direct flights as most of them have layovers in Philadelphia. If it will take 8+ hours to get there from NC (and it is off our coast) my DH would prefer to go somewhere will less travel time. Bermuda remains on my wish list so thanks again!

You could go Delta leaving Charlotte at 07:15 to Altanta, for the 10:30 flight to Bermuda, arriving at 2:00.
|
We are also from Charlotte and have traveled to the Reefs 3 separate times; however always with a direct flight. The Reefs is our absolute favorite spot, stayed at several others. We choose to use scooters and not taxis, so the location is perfect to see most everything on the tiny island. My husband loves to golf and we both love to explore. The beach there is small, but wonderful, with a great beachside cafe. Go for it...it's awesome!!! Also, had the most romantic dinner directly on the beach..fantastic!

Trisha - Who flys directly to Bermuda from Charlotte?
|
Bankbabe, I fly direct from CLT to BDA on USAIRWAYS. It is a seasonal service but should be available all summer. Very pleasant, short flight. Lvs CLT at 1125 arrives BDA just after 3 (remember they are on Atlantic time), return leaves 4:35 pm arrives 6:45 pm.
|
We fly USAirways from Charlotte, though I think their direct is only offered in the summer.
FYI: traveled to Bermuda once in Nov., it rained and was awful!!! Try to go earlier even though it may be hurricane season. We've been in Oct and it was fantastic! |
Ok - thanks girls!! I ws planning on September. I know - chancy with hurricane season and all, but our anniversary is 9/15 and our youngest will be away at college by then...
Thanks again!:) |
I don't think it is terribly chancy. Bermuda has a pretty good track record for Sept weather (www.weather.bm). Perfect for the beach and swimming then. I believe the USAIRWAYS service non stop from CLT is through the first week of October, but have not confirmed that.
Have a wonderful trip and happy anniversary. |
