The best island in the Caribbean for Honeymoon???

My fiancee and I are trying to plan our honeymoon. There are so many beautiful locations to choose from that we just can't decide and need some advice. We are looking for a location that has white sand beaches, romantic settings, luxury accomodations without the luxury price, sightseeing, water activities, and not a big crowd. We will be traveling the first week in May and would like to keep the trip under $5000. Some places we have thought about: Jamaica, St. Johns, Cancun, and St.Lucis. Please help if you have any good advice!

Have you considered Negril, Jamaica, a very romantic beautiful part of the island? About an hour from Montego Bay Airport (away from the congestion), try an all inclusive like the Couples resort in Negril, or Couples Swept Away. I think those places you can get for under $5000.00, I think we paid about $3500.00 for a 5 night stay, at the Couples Resort (very romantic, and COUPLES only, which makes it that much more romantic!)

St. John has the most beautiful beaches. You can stay @ The Westin or Caneel Bay (which has no phones or no swimming pools). The Westin has a beautiful swimming pool. You must rent a car to go to beautiful beaches in St. John.

Also, another very upscale resort is the Ritz Carlton in St. Thomas. Very pretty.

Another suggestion that you haven't mentioned is Bermuda. It is a beautifully charming island filled with wonderful beaches and hidden coves where you and you future husband can go by yourself. You can't rent a car there, but you rent scooters instead. Such fun. I recommend the Reefs or Southampton Princess.

Let us know what you choose.

Melissa, Couples resorts in Jamaica would be a great spot, particuarly Couples Negril.

I wouldn't recommend Cancun for a honeymoon. It has become so Americanized and there is too much going on. If wanting to go to Mexico, Cozumel would be better which isn't far from Cancun. You may want to check into the Royal Hideaway resort, although it is not couples only.

If looking for white sand beaches, you won't find them in St. Lucia. This is an island with dark sand but the island is very lush and tropical, great if you're looking to explore outside the resort.

I have never visited St. John but have heard nothing but great things about it. I had a co-worker who honeymooned at the Westin last year and she had a wonderful time. Good luck and congrats!

We have looked into Negril, Jamaica a bit. One thing I was unsure of is whether the AI's would be the best bet for our $$ if we are very light drinkers??

Melissa, am not a huge drinker either, I had some strawberry dacquiri's throughout the day, :), I thought it was totally worth it to go all inclusive, because food, and even bottled water can get expensive, plus at Couples Negril, there were alot of excursions included, one of which was a sunset catamaran cruise, which I think is pricy .

There are advantages to all-inclusive but it is not for everyone. We do like to travel on the AI plan because we love the fact of not having to worry about paying as we go or a checkout bill, not tipping (although we still do at times), and jsut knowing that literally everything is included. We too are not big drinkers at all but just the food alone could cost a fortune not to mention the water sports that you might not pay for if it was not included since those too are very expensive.

For granted, however, you do miss a certain degree of the island flare in terms of the local foods. But we still will go off for lunch when out and about or a dinner to savor local dishes in true island surrondings.

I also do vote for NEgril, Jamaica. We have been to Jamaica a number of times and Negril is really the better part of the island, in addition to Prt Antonio.

In Negril, we stayed at the Grand Lido. Itis a first rate resort with beautiful accomondations, food and service and it should still fall well below the price range you are looking at.

We have not been to Cpuples but have heard good things about it too. A site called www.tropictravelonline.com offers alot of pictures of different places so that mighit help.

St. Lucia is a beautiful island - very green and mountainous and jsut so lush and tropical. It does not have the white sand since it is a volcano island but so much to see and do.

St. Lucia will be alot mroe money, however then Jaaica, which is really one of the more affordable islands to go too. Cancun too is pretty good in price but we personally do n ot like the Cancun strip - too many highrises, no charm. Need to go outside the area like to Riveris Maya/Sun Coast.

Penney

If you type HONEYMOON in the 'Search' box, you will see all the past input re: Carib. honeymoon suggestions.

Suggest renting a villa for a week in St. John (see WIMCO or Destination St. John online). Although not in the luxury category I suggest researching Shoal Bay Villas Anguilla online--they have kitchenettes. I only suggest these places for their value because airfare alone will be a big cost.
