The normal route to your hotel will be along the western beaches of Nassau. Ask your drive to make a quick at “The Caves” where you can explore and dip your toes in the warm turquoise waters of the beach nearby.

For a more local scenery route, surprise your driver and ask to be taken to “Dirties” in Bain Town. If your driver does not know about “Dirties” jump out of the cab, you have an imposter!

Located on the corner of Nassau and Meadow Street, Rosalies aka Dirities serves without a doubt the best “Crack Conch” in Nassau. This is a dish you must have for a true Bahamian experience. Read more with pictures at: www.dmbtraveler195.blogspot.com

To get a taste of local Bahamian food and culture I recommend you walk over "The Exit Bridge" from Paradise Island and visit the area below called "Potter's Cay". Try fresh conch salad (order mild), sweet potato bread, conch fritters, johnny cake or any other local foods from vendors nearby then join a game of domino's or checkers.

If you prefer a sit down local restaurant look to your right as you exit the bridge you'll see a Dominoes Pizza (don't go there.. lol) and next door (restaurant with green lights) is where you want to go. Try the stew fish if available.

From this area you can catch a "jitney" (local bus) into town about $1 or grab a map and tour the sights on an easy walk to Bay Street.

Atlantis is a very nice place but you have to venture out to get a true Bahamian experience while visiting Nassau. From Atlantis to Cable Beach with stops on Bay Street and "Fish Fry" is safe and can be easily done independently. Going inland to places Rosalies aka "Dirties" can be hectic but worth it if you want the best "Crack Conch" around. I would recommend a taxi from near The Hilton Hotel at the end of Bay Street for this. Catch a jitney once over the bridge from Paradise Island and they will drop you near The Hilton.

Hope you enjoy your stay and I would be interested to read about your experience.
