Tamarijn Aruba Beach Resort

My husband and I are planning a trip to Aruba in July. Has anyone stayed at the Tamarijn Aruba Beach Resort? If so, would like to know about the condition of the facility, food service - how satisfied, beach, distance from casinos and shopping? and any other pertinent information. Thanks!!

Sherrie: my husband and I stayed 1 wk at the Tamarijn in July 1997. My step-daughter will be honeymooning there this July! The accomodations are all beach front...not "plush" but clean and comfortable for the amount of time actually spent in the room. If you are close to the main dining/pool facilities, noise might be a problem at night but only if you are "early-to bed" types. The resort facilites I guess I would describe the same as the rooms themselves...not plush but clean and comfortable. I have heard and seen on other forums that some feel it might be getting "run down" at the Tamarijn. We were looking for a week of sun and relaxation, we left very satisfied with the Tam and with Aruba in general. There was a mix of couples, families and singles there, Europeans and Americans and South Americans. Enough activity at the resort and on the Island to suit most tastes, yet nice enough location and facilities if you just want to relax together. Great weather. Try the Eagle Jeep Safari if you want an adventurous tour of the island. We found the all-inclusive at the Tam to be a good value and had no complaints about the food. We are not gamblers but there is a casino very close. You can take a "golf cart" over to the sister resort (the Divi) and walk across the street from there to one of the casinos and a shopping area. The public bus system to go downtown for shopping is cheap and convenient and close. Taxis down to the hi-rise area hotels/beaches/casinos are reasonable too. Couldn't really say whether the conditions at the resort have deteriorated in the past two years, but we found it a good value for the money compared with other vacations we've taken in the US Virgin Islands or Bahamas, and enjoyed the cleanliness and friendliness of Aruba more than the other locations too. Have a great time!!!

My husband and I and sister and brother in law went to Tamarijn a few years ago. It is not one of the better places but it was nice, most of the food is served outside and with the trade winds it got cool fast. The rooms were clean, not real modern, more like Old Mexican style unless they have changed since we went. We ended up buying time share at Costa Linda, which is beautiful. We love Aruba, the weather is always the same, high 70's and 80's and a trade wind all the time. It is a very pleasant island, the people are very nice. We have been there about 5 times now. I am sure you will love you first experience in Aruba, the casinos are not that far away and Tamarijn has a shuttle to Alahambra Casino. The others you can take a taxi or rent a car. Have a good time and let me know your experience.

Just to let you know that the Tamarijn Aruba Beach Resort is going through renovations. I e-mailed the following..

I have heard that you will be or are remodeling the Tamarijn. I'm planning and possible staying there in the spring of 2000. Is that when the remodeling will be completed or will it be just be starting.

Received the following...

Thank you for your interest in the Tamarijn. In spring 2000 all renovations should be completed. Thank you for your inquiry.

Just thought I would pass it along...

MarkS
Sherrie-
I think you'll be happier at the Allegro. We've been to Aruba for Easter for the last 2 years. Last year my wife's cousin and husband stayed at the Tamarijn and it was a disaster. Very old, dirty rooms without working AC.

The Allegro looks terrific--I've only been there for dinner, but it all looked very inviting. I also think that you'll like the location. Convenient to California Lighthouse part of the island and yet just a fast 10 minutes trip to downtown Oranjestad.

We like the casino at the Marriott best, butr that may be because we seem to win there!! I've left a lot of money at the Royal Cabana Casino!!
IF this is your first trip, consider one of the half day sailing trips around the island--we did a sail/snorkel and a sunset cruise last year on the Blue Octopus (a catamarran). This year we did a half day sail/snorkel on large (62 foot?) sailboat that docked at a slip in downtown Oranjestad. I can't remember the name, but it was painted olive green--we picked up a brochure right at the dock and booked the same day.

One other thing to consider beyond the beaches and night life--we had a great day-long jeep trip. We used Eagle Tours and had a great time. If you go, wear older clothing--the dust in parts of the island we travelled was pretty bad in spots. It was a great time and gives you a chance to see all parts of the island.

Have a great trip!

I highly recommend the Hyatt, or Marriot. You can take the bus around the island. Or rent a car. Visit as much as you can. Should take you one day to do so. Be very open minded, there are a lot of tourists, from all corners of the earth in Aruba. If possible, try the local cuisine. The following link could help you: www.aruba.com
Enjoy!!
