T&C - WOW, airfares have jumped!

Have been watching airfares for a trip to T&C in Feb. Just last week, for the two of us, we were able to fly out of Norfolk, VA through Miami to T&C for $1386. In a weeks time, to get the same itinerary, it's over $2000.

I know I gotta do what I gotta do, but for future trips to the Carribean, do any of you experienced Fodorites have any tips/secrets to get the best airfare deals?

If you are not going until February, I would wait a while and see if fares come down then grab it when you can.

That is crazy. I secured airfare for 4 to Montego Bay for $2K for travel next May. I bought these about 2 weeks ago through Continental.

Also as a tip... airfares are usually higher for Feb. as you are still in peak season. They start to come down around mid to end of April. That's why I usually travel between April & May.

We paid about $715/pp round trip to TCI when we went in June.

For you T&C fans, there's a detailed, and attractive advertising spread on TCI in the current "American Way" magazine on AA, making a big push for the islands' economic development.

Did you look at US airways via Charlotte or Delta via Atlanta. You might also look at Spirit via Ft Lauderdale. They always seem to be having sales. Spirit also has auctions to Provo on www.skyauction.com

You might try this: if you have a PC, go to internet options and clear cookies and clear history. If Mac, clear cache and clear history. reboot. NOW, go back to the webpage and see what the airfare is now.

I was looking at air to Paris and it changed a little each time I looked at it. It was leaving cookies on my searches and 'remembered' me and what I was searching so it went up each time. After I cleared out cookies and history I got my cheap fare back.

I'm not saying this is your fare problem but definately do this regularly when you are looking for airfare. This happened on Continental's website.

BTW, we flew Spirit Air Dallas-Provo for $970 for two. You could try flying someone else to Ft. Lauderdale and then fly Spirit to Provo. May be cheaper.

Spirit is going to stop service to Provo as of Sept. 1. They are looking into flying there during "peak" seasons though. Feb is peak.
www.itasoftware.com will keep up with the major airlines fares, and tell you how to get them.

Oh, that stinks that Spirit is stopping service for off-season. It was the only reasonably-priced air from Dallas. Now we're back to American who is ex-pen-sive!!!
