suggestions for long weekend from Boston?

Hi everyone. I know this is a question that gets asked a lot, but I am wondering if anyone has good suggestions for a 3 or 4 night Caribbean trip from Boston in the winter. Ideally, we would have more time to travel, but this is going to be a quickie girls weekend for myself and my BFF.

We both prefer quiet places off the beaten path (for reference, we have enjoyed renting villas in Virgin Gorda,BVI, Suleiman Bay near Tulum and a small apartment in Isla Mujeres.) so obviously the dilemma is finding somewhere easy enough to get to that is quiet enough for our tastes. We don't want a big resort experience at all, but need something convenient enough that it is worth it for just a few days, preferable a small hotel with a good restaurant/bar that so that we dont' have to spend half a day driving around getting supplies.

We are open to any beachy area/island, especially if we can get a direct flight. I'm leaning toward Tulum, only since I have been there many times, but wondering if there were other options I hadn't thought about.

The out islands of the Bahamas are still a bit chilly in Jan/Feb, aren't they? And maybe tricky to get to.

I am considering Vieques, Puerto Rico but not sure if there is enough direct beach access. We want to be able to walk onto the beach from our room.

Any direction/suggestions appreciated!

it sounds like you have the same vacation style as i do. i travel with bff - we stayed in a villa on tankah - one beach south of soliman. we had a super fun dinner at Oscar Y Lalo's, before the storm. since you're considering tulum why not try one of the places on the south tulum beach like ana y jose's. there are a bunch of them right near each other so you could try various places for food on foot. for such a short trip going somewhere you're familiar with might be a good choice.
i've only done one out island so far - san salvador - can't wait to try others. you usually fly into nassau then to your island. but not warm enough in jan/feb.
for another future trip you might look at one of the turks & caicos besides provo, which has gotten a bit built up.

You'll want to look at nonstops out of Boston, not direct flights which technically include stopovers without a plane change. You don't say what your price range is, which would be helpful. As for the Bahamas, compared to Boston they won't be chilly at all, but for me personally they'd be a tiny bit chilly based on the average water temps that I've read about in those months.

I imagine from Boston you can get a nonstop flight in season to St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Dominican Republic, among others.

If you can definitely swing 4 nights instead of three, then my first suggestion to you is book a nonstop to St. Maarten and then ferry over to Anguilla, which is a beach lover's paradise. High season is expensive there, so if you give us an idea of what your price range might be, we can help you find bargains. I've made the trek there for a long weekend of only 3 nights and it's doable, but having 4 nights would make all the difference in the world.

I've done 3 or 4 night long weekend getaways from Hartford, CT, in Vieques, St. John, Jamaica, Anguilla, Tortola, and Barbados. I think as long as you can arrive on island by around 3:00 or so on your first day, it's worth it.
