Suggestions for 2 full days St. Kitts / 3 full days Nevis

Taking a week's getaway to St. Kitts & Nevis in early December, splitting time between two locations. Since coming/going takes up basically 2 days on the ends of our time, we figure to spend 2 full days in St. Kitts and then ferry over to Nevis for 3 full days. [Never been to either island]
Like to relax on beach, explore by car, eat island cuisine and do a rainforest tour/hiking.
Appreciate input! Would you suggest
- renting a car on Nevis or St. Kitts? Which is better to get a driver (option)?
- best rainforest touring where?
- what not to miss either island?

Also, considering convenience of Marriott on St. Kitts for 2 days. Then Montpelier Plantation on Nevis. Any thoughts on this plan for active middle aged couple :)?

Get the beat of both islands, rent a car on St. Kitts and then take it to Nevis on the SeaBridge Car Ferry. Take the car back (via the car ferry) to St. Kitts the day you leave. That way you'll be able to fully explore both islands.

Lots of rain forest hiking on both islands - one is not necessarily better than the other - just different.

On St. Kitts be sure to visit the Fortress at Brimstone Hill, the petroglyphs, the Black Rocks Lava flow and consider taking the Sugar Train tour.

On Nevis, hike to Nelson's Lookout atop Saddle Hill, visit the Nevisian Village, search for the ghost of Julia Huggins amid the ruins of the Eden Brown Estate, explore the Sugar Plantation ruins at New River and nearby Lime Kiln, check out the Nevis History Museum, and tour the Botanical Gardens.

Before you go, read the book "Rivers of Time by June Goodfield or at the very least visit the website (www.riversoftime.co.uk) then while you are on the hike up Saddle Hill look for the grave marker of Phiippa Prentiss Phillips. The book is a fascinating look at the early history of Nevis dating back to the mid-1600's.

Have fun and enjoy your visit.

Sorry, on St. Kitts I meant to also suggest the Gardens & Batik Factory at Romney Manner and Zipline tour.

In Nevis, hike the "source" trail that starts at the Golden Rock Inn. Pick up a map and a walking stick from Danielle at the reception desk. The trail is about 4.5 miles. Return to the Inn, change into your swimsuits and feel free to use the inns pool. Dry off, and enjoy a cocktail on the majestic deck that is surrounded by beautiful gardens and has fabulous views of the Atlantic.

Banana's restaurant is a must whilst on the island. Food and atmosphere is outstanding.

St kitts is shaped like a turkey drum stick. At the end -say where you'd hold it, is the most beautiful-Atlantic on one side, caribbean on the other. Friars or frigate bay- go all the way to the end- its beautiful!

Nevis- go to Sunshines Bar (world famous) for a killer bee! Take a tour of the plantations! Nevis is old caribbean charm! Have fun!
