Substitute for Bitter End Yacht Club

I’m looking for a place to go next March wirh husband and teenaged son. Bitter End would have been perfect but it is not open due to hurricane. Any suggestions on a place that is heavily oriented towards sailing and water sports? I’ve thought of a sailboat charter but hesitate because I am prone to seasickness! Thanks in advance!

Scrub Island might be a good substitute. It has a resident sailing school.

Thank you doug_stallings for the suggestion! I looked at the scrub island website and it says they are partially open. I would prefer a place that is fully open and it doesn’t have to be in BVI.

Try Ábacos, Bahamas. Tons of little cays to explore sailing and boating. Gorgeous little town at Hope Town

cool little islands to explore—Great Guana Cay, Turtle Cay, Little Abaco

differwnt from Virgin Islands (more rustic) but gorgeous nevertheless

or 1 of my favorites—Staniel Cay Yatch Club. Each room comes with a skiff, upgrade to bigger boat. Restaurant is excellent, exploring even better—swimming pigs, sand bars, ghrottos, tons of cays, tame sharks, and the prettiest water you’ll ever lay eyes on.

Another more ore similar option is st Vincent and Grenadines. More similar to Virgins but also gorgeous. Tobago Cays are spectacular and Mopion will make you giddy. (The view to Union looks like a mini Bora Bora). I’d stay at Canuan or Palm and hop by boat

Thanks blamona! Those sound like great options! Do any of them have boating instruction? We are novices!

For me Staniel Cay was the easiest of independent, shallow waters, great maps

the others we always hired a captain to take us around, was pretty easy to hire. (Or private excursions too)
