Stupid Question? Cell Phones/Blackberries in USVI
This is probably a stupid question, but will my blackberry work in St. John or do I need an International Sim Card? Thanks!

It all depends on your carrier.
Call them or check out their website for info. Also, know the rates for incoming emails and texts as we were in for a shock when our bill came from the bahamas. It was 4 figures. |
I have Alltel and it works fine. No additional charges as it's in the national plan coverage area.

I'd call your provider to verify directly. I had been told mine would work and was unpleasantly surprised to find that I needed to "allow" my phone to be accessed outside the states before I was already gone.
Have a good trip! |
It depends on where you are. Ours usually work in most areas with a few exceptions being the more hilly areas on St. John.

We were in St. Croix over New Years and our T-Mobile phones did not have service, even though I thought I had pre-set them up before departure. It had the kids up in arms and when we landed for about an hour until they looked around and saw they were in paradise. I must admit, I never missed my cell phone for a second, and I don't believe that they did either.

I haves used SprintPCS in the pas and recemntly AT&T in USVI. Both for data and for voice, and it does not cost extra. It omes out of your regular usage, since USVI and Puerto Rico are considered part of your nation-wide coverage.
