Street exchange rates
The informal rates for foreign currency in Cuba have been trending upwards again. A few weeks ago, you would only get 300 pesos per US dollar. Today it's 330.
We never bothered exchanging our CDN $ to U.S. $ probably because we never bought very much CUP to begin with. Any idea what the CDN rate is now in Cuba?
You will only get around 200 per CDN$. So if you plan on exchanging a large amount, it makes sense to buy USD first.
I will be taking 3 different currencies on my upcoming trip (Euro, U.S, and CDN). I'll report back on what I get for each.
I lookk forward to hearing about your trip CW.
Approximate on average
Euro - 335 U.S. - 310 CDN - 230 Trip report to follow. |
We exchanged just a bit of Canadian for 220. That’s all I asked for. I am not sure if I could gotten much more.
Rates have been pretty stable lately. 345 pesos for $1 US. 218 per CDN$ as of today.
We have only taken Canadian dollars because by the time you lose on the exchange, there isn’t much difference I would think. The days if the CUC seemed less complicated.
The peso is in decline again against the dollar. Street rates are currently 365 pesos per dollar.
Street rates are currently 365 pesos per dollar. :plane: :palm::cocktail::sun: |
I just got back from 3 months in Nicaragua and am getting caught up with my people. I am considering a short 2 month trip to Havana leaving sometime in June. Not seeing great flight only options to Varadero at this time though.
Street rate is 395 pesos per dollar today. I asked for 380 and got that rate from the 4th person I asked.
Exchanged more USD today. Most of the taxi drivers I spoke to either weren't interested or were offering me much less. Same in regards to the resort staff. Finally found a driver that accepted my offer of 380 pesos per dollar. Current street rate is 398.
Geeez, at that rate who can afford not to go to Cuba!
Simon, can you ask around about exchange rate for $ Canadian $........ Currently 7:30 pm here and baking at 32 degrees C. Have a dip in the ocean  and a cold drink :cocktail:for me! |
I'll find out abiut Canadian $'s Thursday or Friday. As for cold drinks, I had a Mayabe yesterday while walking around town. My resort ran out of draft Crystal and then was serving : Presidente, Becks and Super Bock. Draft beer returned yesterday. I usually have 1 beer a day, some wine with dinner and the rest of the time sipping on 8 year Santiago de Cuba. Buying it myself. Resort doesn't offer any good rum.
Eltoque's website is saying 400 pesos per American dollar and 267.5 per Canadian. I received 385 pesos today for my USD. My guy said he would only pay 235 for CDN.
Foreign currencies keep getting stronger in Cuba. Street rates are now 405 pesos per USD and 271 for CDN. These are the maximum rates one might get doing an informal exchange. I typically ask for around 5% less.
410 pesos per USD today.
