stonington hotel in Bermuda--what do you know?

Hubby and I stayed at the Stonington last July and we too had debated
between it and the southhampton princess. I chose Stonington because for once I wanted to just open my door and have the beach right there.(The beach at the princess is far away). I wanted a smaller intimate hotel
. Also, I didn't want to pay for amenities that we would not use. The food was good, the service great, but obviously not as impressive looking as the princess.

The Princess to me had always been out of place in the Bemuda hotel scene. It is very nice, but strikes me as a corporate hotel oe golfers place. Go with Stonington, The Reefs, Ariel Sands, Cambridge Beaches or Pink Beach. Do the dine around or EP and go to the many fine dining palces on the island@

Agree with Penny. Stayed at the Stonington twice and would stay at any one of her suggestions again but definitely not the Southampton Princess. Agree with the other comments...large and very impersonal, beach is too far away to be relaxing and enjoyable.

Stonington is located on the second best beach in Bermuda (Horseshoe is first). It shares the same beach with the Elbow beach hotel, and its practically right out the rooms door ways. The South Hampton's beach is so far away you can't even walk to it. you have to take a shuttle bus, unless you want to walk up a very large hill to the hotel on your way back. If want to stay at a hotel with the best beach, the Stonington and Elbow Beach Hotel are your best choices. Just keep in mind that I haven't read anything GOOD about Elbow beach Hotel recently. Check out www.geocities.com/travelynx for some good Bermuda links.

I learned that the Stonington was not being run by the Hospitality College anymore. Has anyone stayed there recently? I was wondering if the change has really had an impact?

How was the menu and quality of dining room? The location seems great.

--R

Stayed at Stonington last Aug/Sept after moving out of Horrible Elbow Beach Resort. We loved the Stonington. Nice rooms though a little on the small side but easy acess to the fabulous beach. Good service, good food. A ggod deal for the money.
