StJohn's best eats...
OK, hotel and air confirmed, now the fun part,
give me your best advice on breakfast spots in Cruz Bay... favorite sandy floor lunch spots and unique evening dining experiences. No dress codes required kind of places. Thanks in advance, island breeze. |
Hi I/B
Look up the one below. We did a wedding dinner there a couple of years ago. Unbelievable. A little pricey, but IMO well worth it. High up on Bordeaux mountain. About half hour by 4WD from Cruz Bay. Enjoy! Shrink Chateau Bordeaux Bordeaux Mountain 340-776-6611 Photo© Chateau Bordeaux This romantic cottage restaurant sits on St. John's highest lookout point. Chateaux Bordeaux is known for its spectacular down island views and intimate setting. The view is just the appetizer, try the Caribbean Lobster Crepe, Chillean Seabass, Mango Beurre Blanc, or any of the decadent homemade desserts. |
Favorite dining spots: Morgan Mangos, Asolare,Fish Trap and Miss Lucys(outside Coral Bay)
|
We had 3 very mediocre meals at the Fish Trap for $100.00! Drinks were good-but for great food, drinks, and music I vote for Morgan's Mango.
|
Hey...is Lime Tree Inn still around?
Where is Morgan Mango and Fish Trap? Hope these hurricanes skirt the islands. |
Skinny Legs & Island Blues in Coral Bay are good lunch spots. Very (very) casual, simple food & beer.
Miss Lucy's is great for Sunday Brunch. I think Morgan's Mango is in Mongoose Junction in Cruz Bay... We also liked Rhum Lines in Cruz Bay for tapas & nice dinner. A friend of ours is a chef at ZoZo's at Gallows Point, for nice dinner. Also there's a place between Woody's and the Front Porch that we wanted to try. Looked nice. Next time! Everyplace is casual in STJ! |
We've been going to St. John for about 4 years now and recently bought a place there. I just love, love, love La Tapa (no view but GREAT food) and also like Zozo's but rather eat upstairs by the bar since the view is much, much better.
|
LOL...thanks Michelle! La Tapa is the place between Woody's & Front Porch. Glad to know the food is so good!
|
Stone Terrace and Tage were outstanding restaurants. So good we ate at both twice during our two week stay this summer

Where are they located? Sounds like there are so many new great eats since our last visit. Yeah... keep in mind, we like the aloof slower island service as compared to heat it up, eat, get going kind of places. |
We make sure to go to Fish Trap every time we go to STJ. It is one of our favorites. Casual atmosphere (think sitting on a deck on plastic outdoor chairs), very reasonable (for STJ!) Good food and drinks.
We did not have good luck at Morgan Mango - hostess had an attitude; food was not bad, but not great, didn't think this was a good value. We loved Asolare for our "fancy" night out - it was the most expensive restaurant we went to on STJ. Food was excellent. Atmosphere was also great. Uncle Joe's - amazing bbq. |
Tage!
|
Yes, Lime Inn is still there (at least it was last Dec.). It's oustanding! The mussels and the frozen key lime pie are to die for.
We had good luck also at Zozo's. Expensive, but worth it. The view from the bar - especially at sunset- are amazing. They make great martini's too ;-) We thought Fish Trap was okay if you order the tuna. Stone Terrace was also good, but not great. The burgers at Skinny Legs in Coral Bay for lunch you can't beat. For a good variety at lunch - and just a great view- go to Caneel Bay. They have a buffet for about $25, but it includes everything from fish/chicken/steak, salads and dessert. Plus you can enjoy their gorgeous beach afterwards. Have fun! |
Dont forget Chilly Billies for breakfast..
|
I don't know if I'm chiming in too late on this....but we honeymooned in St. John last year. We loved Asolare for the atmosphere and view. The food was pretty good too, but not the greatest we had all week. Ask the bartender for a ginger apple martini - I haven't found one since leaving St. John! We also absolutely LOVED Paradiso. It was the most amazing food either of us have ever had. We could not believe it - and were disappointed it was on our last night, or we would have gone back. A few restaurants were closed in August when we were there (Lime Inn and Stone Terrace). We loved Skinny Legs for lunch, and hit Chilly Billy's twice for great breakfast diner food - at a GREAT price. Have a wonderful time!

Stone Terrace - for a wonderful dinner.
Chateaux Bordeaux -great food, incredible view. Panini Beach Trattoria (wharfside village, Cruz Bay). Try the Caribbean Martini -- on the water. Casual - The Beach Bar (also Wharfside Village) |
Chilly Billy's by day - Ten Table's by night and you can't go wrong with either. Dinner at Ten Table's was exceptional!
