Staying at isla verde wyndham- what to eat and do?

Hello all
Well Ive been printing out ideas for what to do for 5 days in PR , well be staying at the wyndham in isla verde. I would like to get suggestions for good food places around there, maybe specific places good for breakfast, and dinner. Also just general suggestions about snorkeling trips, suggested tour groups etc, any help will be appreciated.

Len, although you don't mention budget in your posting, there are some great restaurants in the area. If you are not renting a car, you may catch a taxi to the area of Punta Las Marias (less than 5 minutes from your hotel) were you will find a variety of dining spots for all budget needs and tastes. There's local cuisine, Brazilian, Argentinian, etc. For local nouvelle cuisine you might want to try The Parrot Club at La Fortaleza St. in the Old City. It's about a 10 minute cab ride, not far. On the high end ($40 per person), I would suggest The Dragon Fly (criollo mixed with asian cuisine, delicious and excellent ambiance) or Aguaviva (charming seafood place), both located at La Fortaleza St. in the Old City. I guess I can go on and on. In regards to fun things to do, if you are the adventurous type I would recommend doing a day trip with Aventuras Tierra Adentro. They will take you on a wild trip to the Camuy Cavern system. Wild meaning rapelling, body rafting in the river and hiking. You may also visit the Arecibo Observatory or sign up for a kayak night trip to the flourescent bay in Fajardo. I beleive the company's name is The Kayak Rental and they will pick you up at your hotel in Isla Verde. Although snorkeling is available around the island my personal favorites are the islands of Vieques or Culebra or a day trip to Fajardo. Since you are staying at a very nice property, I am sure your concierge can suggest other activities. If you would like more details, please e-mail me. Have a great trip!

A taxi ride to (Old San Juan might take 10 minutes but it will cost $12 or $16 each way. There are 6 restaurants in the Wyndham. A favorite with locals in the Metropol, a five minute walk from the hotel - Cuban cuisine. Try Mi Casita for breakfast -a full breakfast for $3. It is located in a small strip mall across from the Intercontinental - five minutes from the Wyndham. Full day snorkling trips run out of Fajardo. Tour desk at the hotel will have information. A trip to the Camuy Caves and Rain Forest are popular.

Good choice on the hotel, it has as the others mentioned top notch entertainment. I didn't care for eating at "the Palms" way over priced and not so good.

Great Japanese Restaurant in the hotel next door next to Ruth Chris, but my favorite restaurant in PR is "Ajili Mohili". I think I spelled it right, but no matter everyone on the Island knows about it. THe two chefs have been written up all over the place, and they led the way in Puerto Rican fusion.

The Mofungo is absolutely must have, and they are the best. I find myself going there several times in the week when I'm there on business.

Take a tour of the Citidel in old San Juan ( 1$) and walk around the old section, where you can find some surprising and interesting items.

Watch yourself at night, it is the worse crime rate in the US.

Puerto Rico has some of the most beautiful beaches, but honestly overall I find it a dirty run down Island in general. BUT it is a perfect 5 day vacation with just the food experience alone! and the people are really friendly.

Also next to your hotel, is Lupis Mexican restaurant, where (if your into chicken wings) they have some of the best tasting wings I have ever had. Discovered that by accident one night after aI got off a late flight and everything was closed! They also serve it with a green hot mexican pepper sauce
that was so good, I had to search the internet for it, and ordered some for home!

On the way back be sure you check out the duty free shops. The prices for top shelf liquor is amazing, and there is NO restriction on how much you bring back. I always come back with a load of Hennesey XO and Bombay Gin as it is often nearly half the costs.

Also the PR rum is fantastic (DonQ Rum) and is NOT available on the main land so I usually get 6 bottles of that too!

Final note, next to Lupi's Mexican restaurant just past the massage parlor...he heh...is a small plain looking restaurant/wine/liquor store. It has some excellent PR pastries, and you can get your DonQ rum there at about $9 a bottle...and remember NO limitations on how much you can bring back to the US.

Bye

We stayed there too. GREAT place! Especially at night!! Good entertainment and SO many people come to visit the hotel at night for casino and entertainment. The CHINESE + Italian restaurant was very good, - but all are a little expensive!! BUT- I wouldn't walk anywhere near there at night!!!! -- So we had to eat there or take a taxi somewhere else. Whish we did
a couple times. The DRESS varies in the hotel. You will see all kinds of sights at night, and it is just fun to be in the lobby and watch everyone.
