St. Thomas Cruise Ships Schedule - What to Avoid

On days when ships are in in St. Thomas what are the places to avoid?

Also, where can we go on days with the ships in to avoid the cruise crowds??

Hi Lois,

When there are ships in port, I would suggest you avoid Magens Bay until late afternoon...if it's Wednesday and there is a Disney ship in, you will want to avoid Sapphire beach. Also, when ships are in both Havensight and downtown CA are really crowded so you may want to stay away from there....the flip side is that all the shops will be open when the ships are in. You may also wish to stay away from Trunk over on St. John since that is the most popular destination of cruise ship beachgoers on STJ.

As for areas to head to....try any of the lesser visited beaches for some quiet time....like Hull or Dorothea or Secret Harbour. Head down to Brewers Bay to check for some shells. Go visit the UVI campus. Almost anywhere on the west end of the island would be safe. Spend some time in Frenchtown. Go shopping at Tutu Plaza and stop by Tillett Gardens right up the street. Hit the Kiln Works and take a look at the pottery and artwork there. Most of the above are not on the "beaten path" with the tours so you should be safe.

Hi Schultz,

Thanks for all of the great information. This is our first time and we're there for 10 days, so we want to make the best of it.

On the schedule when it lists the dock as "WICO" where is that?

Cruise ships in CA dock at one of 2 facilities:
1. West Indian Company (WICO)
2. Crown Bay (CB)
