St Thomas - All Inclusive Resorts
 

We are planning to stay 10 nights in St Thomas between Non 14th and 25th. The two places we are interestred in at this point are for the first 5 nights Sugra Bay Resort and then 5 nights at Bongolo Bay Resort both staying in ocean front rooms. Any suggestions on splitting up the vacation or should we just stay put at one resort for the entire10 nights. Our considerations are location how close to snorkeling, towns, resteraunts, culture, the beach at the resort, the food and the service.

Also we heard there are some great day trips to St John as well as BVI's. Any input would be great!

While I would certainly advocate splitting up your trip, I'd move for the second half to a completely different island like St. John or Tortola. Though that's not going to be possible if you are dead-set on the idea of an all-inclusive experience, something that the USVI and BVI are just not known for.

Sugar Bay has a lot of activities to keep you entertained. You will want to go into Charlotte Amalie if you are interested in shopping. Sugar Bay has three nice freshwater pools and a hot tub. I think they have a casino, too, but I don't gamble so I don't pay much attention to that. Our room had a breathtaking view of the ocean and a nice balcony. We also really liked the bathroom and how it was set up.

I agree with Doug that I would do the second half in the BVI's. It would be nice to go someplace a little more tropical and they would be an ideal location to hop to.

We stayed at the Sugar Bay in 2005. It was OK, but the 99 wooden steps to the beach, pools, bars and buffet was not for us. There is a shuttle that goes down there though. The ala cart food was really not that great. The buffet was better with really nice salads. There is not much of anything around the Sugar Bay back then and we needed to take a taxi to get anywhere. We saw treachous driving, but many people do it. I'm not one of them.

At that time, the Marriott Morning Star and Frenchman Reef was not doing an AI plan. We also had to chose between Bonlongo Bay ans Sugar Bay. I feel we made the wrong choice. If the Marriott was offering an AI plan back then, I would have chose them instead.

I agree if you want to split your vacation spend 5 days on St. John or BVI. We did 7 on St. Thomas with a day trip to St. John and a sail around the BVI's and that was enough for us. There are no AI's on St. John. Not sure about BVI's. I don't think so, but if there is, it's going to be very expensive.

welly: The USVI isn't known for all-inclusive options. Of your two choices, Sugar Bay is closer to Red Hook, where you will find a good number of bars and restaurants as well as the ferry to St John, day trips to the BVI, etc. IMHO, stay in one spot.
