St. Thomas...a few concerns/questions 7/14-7/18/20

Hello all!

I hope that you're all doing well, with this whole world ending month after month situation we are in.

I am going to St. Thomas in two weeks (had to reschedule twice due to Spirit...ugh). I just booked a rental car with Avis through my work savings website (workingadvantage.com). It cost me $188-ish for a 5 day standard car rental. I was super excited, as that is an extremely low price. However, now i am very nervous; the Cyril Avis reviews are quite horrid. The cars were in awful condition, bald tires, extremely low tire pressure, car stinks, horrible customer service, long waits because they do not have a car ready for you....My flight will be getting in at 2:50pm. I won't have much time left in the day...so I will want to be on my way to the resort as quickly as I can. Can anyone speak to this? Has anyone had experiences with Avis at the Cyril airport? *cannot get a refund because I purchased from workingadvantage.com.

Also, can anyone recommend activities for single travelers? I was supposed to be traveling with someone, but they backed out. And there is NO WAY i am missing my vacation. I was thinking maybe there is a photography club or something of the like.

Oh and are people respecting social distancing and being cautious?

Have you read and posted on Trip Advisor too? There is a Destination Forum for St. Thomas similar format to Fodor's. In addition to the forums section, you can also find Reviews - hotel, car rental, restaurants, etc. My own USVI experience was only once years ago and I didn't rent a car.

I can't speak to the car rental, but if you can't get a refund, you are kind of in a position just to deal with it I suspect.

All of the flights come in in the afternoon, and 2:50 isn't *that* late. Where are you staying? Will you need to stop for groceries?

I have never heard of a photography club. Most visitor related activities are oriented to the sea- snorkeling, diving, boating, sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding, etc. A single person will be welcomed in all these. What interests you??
