St. Maarten: need hotel recommendation

hi,
We are travelling to St. Marteen in Feb 2008 with our son who will be 8 months old. We are looking for a hotel that has a nice beach with no or VERY minimal waves so that we can take him in the ocean. We also want a hotel that sets up nice beach chairs with cushions with umbrellas & on beach food/drink waiter service. I would like something a little on the upscale side but not too over the top expensive (like the $1000 per night La Sammanna). I would prefer a non-casino hotel as that is not the ambiance we are going for - just want to relax. We don't care about which side of the island we stay. Thank so much for your help!!!

Check out Grand Case Beach Club. I haven't stayed there (I prefer L'Esplanade, but it is not on the beach.) For that matter, you could look at le Petit Hotel - which is a 'sister' to L'Esplanade and is on the beach in Grand Case. Again, I haven' stayed there either...

thanks for that info about Le Petit; I had emailed them after I put the initial post and unfortunately they have a 7 night minimum (told me to email them in December); we already made our flight plans and really don't want to stay that long; we are staying 5 nights which is plenty long for a relaxing beach vacation for me!

I think the French side might be a little nicer and quieter than the Dutch side.
It was our experience that most of the beaches had minimal waves.

I would suggest Grand Case Beach Club for a smaller resort, or Sunterra Royal Palm on the Dutch side for a more full service resort.
