St. Maarten help

Hello, I am wanting to stay at a nice, upscale resort in St. Maarten. Can anyone tell me about the "Maho Beach Resort" Is this the resort that is right beside the airport? I do not wish to hear planes landing all day/night, any and all help appreciated. If you wish to suggest a resort, please do so!

Thanks

Yes, Maho Beach Resort is basically located at the end of the runway for Princess Juliana Airport and you will hear/see planes landing at various times.

If you are looking for an upscale resort, might I suggest Princess Port de Plaisance.

Thanks for the help. I didn't mean upscale, more accurately I should have said 4 of 5 star. Is there anyone out there that can recommend a nice resort. Nice beach, a number of places to heat, a nice pool....no planes landing at all hours??

Anyone????

I always stay at Royal Palm myself. It's located in Simpson Bay, but not close enough to the airport to hear noise. There is a nice beach, pool, bar and restaurant, as well as fitness center on the premises. There are also a couple of bars/restaurants directly across the street.

There are quite honestly numerous resorts on SXM that fit your criteria, so this is just one suggestion.

We just returned from SXM and stayed at the Flamingo Beach resort - we found it to be a wonderful location with very friendly staff members. Request a room right on the beach. It is in Simpson Bay so it is close to a lot of nice restaurants. Try to get over to Orient Beach at least once.

Just and FYI - there are no upscale resorts in St. Maarten if I understand what you are referring to ... they are all nice, but there's nothing the likes of Marriott/Hyatt that you would be used to in places like Grand Cayman or Jamaica. They all seem to be a little less hoity toity, but still nice. As to the planes, we stayed at Caravanserai, which is literally next to the run way and you don't hear the planes at night, as there aren't any. You will barely notice them when they do start in the morning - it never bothered us and we were closer than the Maho place. This are is also where all the night life occurs. For longer beaches and a quieter time, Orient Beach is the place for you, on the French side.

Just wanted to write. I was just on a cruise last week where they stopped at St. Maarten. We went to Orient Beach. We loved it so much.

There is only one five star hotel on the island and it is on the French side - La Samanna. Excellent service and food. Make sure you ask for the renovated rooms and you certainly can't hear or even see a plane. Enjoy

I'd put the Le Meridien on the French side with upscale as well.

just got back from a cruise. spent one day on st. marteen. A day trip to Pinel island to snorkel is great. very quiet and secluded. just across from orient bay. I found the people on the french side to be rude. shopping in Phillisburg was much better than marigot. Check Little divi beach resort. It seems to be located in a very nice spot. I would look into staying there if I go back

I have stayed at the Le Meridien and it is great...definitely one of the best places to stay in all of St. Maarten/Martin. The rooms are a little humid (as with many tropical resorts) but the food is excellent and the beach is wonderful. The place has a great ambience to it. In the lobby, you get free drinks upon arrival. There are computers in the lobby as well which provide internet access for a charge. Go to Le Meridien's website for a view of the rooms. If the price is right, go for a marina view suite or any type of suite. However, an oceanview is a must, the garden view rooms back unto a dirt road and is not very scenic and looks like it could get a little loud. We stayed in a family suite and loved it! I hope I was able to help!

spent a week in November at Orient Beach, its on the French side. The French side is much more European than the commercialized Dutch side, nice if you want to get away from that stuff. Most places there are not what you would call 4 or 5 star, we stayed at the Carribean Princess which was a very nice condo. There are many places to stay on Orient, ranging from cheap to expensive. There are a few places to eat at Orient Beach, but Grand Case is only a 5 - 10 minute drive and has numerous great places to eat. The beach at Orient is definitely the liveliest on the island.

My wife and I did 10 days in St. Marteen back in April, first 5 at the Alamanda Resort on Orient Beach, last 5 at La Samanna. Stay at La Samanna you won't regret it, little pricey but worth it. It's in a nice location that you can easily access the Maho area to the south or Marigot, Grand Case and Orient Beach to the North. Probably one of the more upscale resorts you'll find on the island. Don't worry about plane noise or any noise for that matter, very quiet area

Hi gbwnab, Have you been to the Maho Beach Resort yet? We will be arriving there on the 15th of Jan and wonder if you enjoyed your stay? Do you have to rent beach chairs at this resort or are they part of the "all inclusive"?
