ST. Lucia trip.

We are trying to plan this trip but have no idea .There is a hotel Ladera we are considering, has anyone been to this island recently? Was there enough to do or was the beach mainly it.Any info, recomendations would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

There is much to do off the beach on St Lucia. It is not well known for its beautiful beaches. They are light brown sand with darker appearing water. Check out stlucia.org and sunlinktours.com to get you started. Ladera has 4 walled rooms and is not directly on the beach. They have a shuttle to the Jalousie Plantation Beach. The views look outstanding. Rodney Bay in the northern part of the island is a little more active than the Soufriere area with more shopping and restaurants. Just depends if you want to be a little remote or not.

That should have said three walled rooms.

brenandg, thank you for your help, but I may consider a more popular or larger island whats your feel on Jamaica ? Have you visited that Island?

This has been said so many times on this forum, but first deciding what type of island you want will get you started. The volcanic islands like St Lucia have darker sand and less alluring beaches and the coral based islands are flat and scrubby with great beaches. Shopping or not, nightlife or not, "Americanized" or more rustic? We have been to Negril, Jamaica twice and liked it alot. Negril beach is great with a lot of local flavor. I really didn't "explore" Jamaica much as for these trips, we just wanted to hang out at the beach. There are many Jamaica experts on this forum who can give you great information about Jamaica. I think that for now anyway, the US and British Virgin Islands have a lot of what we like. The scenery is lush and the beaches are beautiful white sand.

miaspapa,

St. Lucia and Jamaica are totally different islands :))

What kind of vacation are you seeking? Can you describe your perfect Caribbean vacation?

If you think about your ideal, and then repost in detail, maybe you would get some good ideas for where to go. ;)
