St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines
 

I am wanting to go to St. Lucia for one week and St. Vincent & the Grenadines for one week for my honeymoon in late July. I am looking for places to stay in both places and recommendations on where to go in the Grenadines. I am looking for a very exclusive top notch place in St. Lucia. In St. Vincent and the Grenadines I am wanting a cheaper place that is still secluded but could be something more like a bed and breakfast on the beach.

Also, I am looking for recommendations on any scuba diving and fishing excursions. I definetily don't want to do anything on a "cattle boat."

You should think about staying on Bequia in the Grenadines--from there you can take daytrips to St. Vincent by ferry or to Mustique and the Tobago Cays via the Friendship Rose schooner.

Bequia is full of quaint inns and guesthouses. If you want to be on or near the beach, check out the Lower Bay area--Dawn's Creole Cottage, Keegan's, and Lower Bay Apartments are all possibilities. They're very lowkey but comfortable and congenial.

If you want to be closer to the action, consider either the Frangipani or the Gingerbread in "town", with their waterfront locations on Admiralty Bay in Port Elizabeth. From there you can walk to restaurants & shops on the Belmont Walkway, a waterfront sidewalk/boardwalk. The bar at Frangipani is a really good one, and lots of sailors belly up to the bar there nightly, so conversation is always lively. I stayed at the Frangipani for my first trip to BEquia. In the future I will probably split my stay between town & the beach. (Though you can walk from Port Elizabeth to Princess Margaret Beach and from there to the beach at Lower Bay--it's a hike on a footpath, but not a long hike.

On St. Lucia, I second virginia's recommendations, with my only personal experience being at Jalousie and having dinner at Ladera's restaurant. I would also add the new luxury resort being constructed in phases right now, whose name eludes me, but there's a recent post here on the forum asking about it...

Can you tell me about renting sail boats in Mustique? I am going to Mustique in June and want to reserve a private day sail. The Friendshiprose is really just too expensive for the two of us. Do you know anything about the Windsong II, Sula, or any of the catamaran's that sail in the area. Would a catamaran be better for a day of sailing than a sailing yacht or sloop yacht. I love to sail, but don't know anything about different types of boats.

Also looking for recommendations on where to sail on the day sail?

Sorry, WT. I can't tell you a thing about Musqtique sailboats for rent. But I suspect that it would be a lot more expensive than joining a regularly scheduled daysail on the Friendship Rose!

As someone who's lived here for more than 15 years, I would definitely recommend several exclusive resorts located in Soufriere: Jalousie Plantation, Ladera or Jade Mountain (part of Anse Chastanet Resort and great scuba diving too). If you prefer a quiet, secluded setting away from the hustle and bustle of the city then Soufriere is the way to go. Otherwise if you like to be where all the action is there's the bustling Rodney Bay area in the north of the island which has many resorts to choose from such as Sandals Grande, Royal St. Lucian, Bay Gardens Beach Resort or the new Landings Resort.
