St lucia rain /hurricanes
 

Looking for an island destination for the first week of november . Love the look of St Lucia and read somwhere because it is a bit further south it is spared a bit more than the northern islands hurricane wise . I understand it rains and I can handle a tropical shower a day , but does it rain all day ... Also like St Kitts and Nevis , but perhaps more hurricane risk there .. The A , B , C , islands are a bit arid looking although I know they are almost always spared in both cases , I just like the whole foilage lush thing !!! Any input ..

We were there in the summer, when it rains even more than November. And it wasn't bad at all - just a few afternoon or middle of the night showers. Actually, we rented a villa with 3 walls (ala Ladera Resort) and the rain always came down the mountainside from behind us - so we never got wet sitting out on our covered deck, listening to that rain hit the tin roof. Very cooling and relaxing!

When we were there and stayed a week it rained a lot -- most of the day for the better part of the week. We only had a couple of non-rainy days. That's why it's so "lush and tropical" -- they also have a "rain forest". We too stayed at Ladera, but the rain prevented us from doing lots of things we would have liked to do. If you check out the rainfall statistics for the Caribbean, St. Lucia is among the islands that gets a lot more rain than some.

We found that we ran for cover most of the day - everyday. It's a pretty expensive vacation to sit in a hotel lobby. The ABC islands really do have perfect weather.

When were you there that you ran for cover everyday ... I dont think the A B C islands are my style at all , I am quite certain the beaches are beautiful,but an arid flat landscape and huge highrise hotels and casinos is not for me . I know from this site many , many , people love Aruba but for me it would be a mistake . Still interested to know what month you visited St.Lucia , and thanx for the advice . Faith

Have you considered Barbados? I know it is not as lush or scenic as St. Lucia, but it rains less, and it still has a very West Indian feel to it. You have rolling hills and fields of sugarcane (along with white sand beaches). A better chance of good weather w/out the arid fully built up scene of Aruba. Just a thought.

We were there in December and January. If you decide you still want to go, you need to also consider what part of the island you stay on if the beach is important to you as some parts are extremely rough and you may not be able to spend any time there. Good luck in deciding.

Hi , Yes I have been to Barbados and was not particularly impressed , It was not a bad destination , seemed safe, sort of pretty , some nice beaches , etc. I would love to see some place new . Nevis seems along the same line , St.Lucia just looks so beautiful . Thanx for your input , it is appreciated ! Faith

Oh ! Thanx Knowing , we like the Stonefield Estate villas , close to the pitons . We would use the Hilton beach . Some people have had great luck weatherwise , others not so lucky , at the whim of Mothernature ! Faith

Weather can be a hit or miss thing anywhere you go at anytime of the year. So, sorry to hear that a couple of posters here had not such great wheather for their stays in St.Lucia.

I have been following trip reports for the last two years, almost three now, about St.Lucia. Seems most people, hit it when there may be a short 5 min. showers/rain here or there, but as quickly as it comes, it goes.

I think you would have to hit a most unfortunate week in St.Lucia to have it rain all week.

Knowing is correct about knowing what part of the island you consider staying on if the beach is important. People can come back from St.Lucia with completely different views of the island, water and beaches just by where they stayed. It can really make or break someones experience in St.Lucia and I think that is kind of a shame. If we had only stayed at the Sandals that we were suppose to stay, I would propably have no desire to ever return to St.Lucia. As Luck would have it we discovered the Jalousie and Ladera, Anse Chastenet, and I am waiting patiently for the first chance to return.

Stonefield will no doubt be excellent and you will be able to use both lovely beaches of the Jalousie and Anse Chastenet. I say go....and take the risk. At this point, I wouldn't mind spending a week there in the rain!!!!!

Thanx Donna ! It looks so beautiful , and when I started looking at other options I was not as drawn to them . Nevis perhaps the closest , but still love the look of St.Lucia ! Faith ; appreciate it !

A old boss of mine wanted us to say "cloud bursts" not "rain", as they were short showers, even if daily...now that sounds so much better, no ? ha ha
