St Lucia or St Martin

I have a choice between an open air 2 bdrm resort the windjammer landing in St Lucia or the Pelican Resort Club in St Martin. Having never been to either island which would be the best option? We are a family of 4 and like good food and water sports and just being lazy. Would be going the first week of July. Any thoughts

I have been to many Caribbean islands though not St. Lucia but I was in St. Martin in January and we did not like it , traffic jams due to the fact everyone has cars there due to no steep import duties on cars, hard to get a taxi on some parts of the island, gambling casinos on the Dutch side, cramped buildings there too. French side much better but still traffic, would never go back. Also the Euro is used and the exchange rate against the $ at present is very poor.

St Lucia is a fabulous island with lots to do, great food and it won't be crawling with people in July.

Definitely Windjammer. No traffic as the entrance is about 1/4 mile from any major road.
Good watersports and sandy beach. Big open air villas with plenty of space. Most 2 bedroom villas have their own plunge pool. There is some construction going on there (which I was worried about) but I can honestly say that there was no noise and everything was kept clean including the pool. I think they have some good deals at the moment so check out expedia.com

I agree with the Windjammer Landing option. We are invited back to the island and Windjammer was recommended to us by John of Serenity Vacations. They offer up to 3 tours free with your booking and their rates are quite a bargain when compared to anywhere else. If you check them out tell them Donna said hi. They are toll free at 866 766 0794 or serenitytvl.com

Definitely St. Lucia!! We stayed at the Windjammer Landing 2 years ago and it was wonderful. The rooms were spacious and the staff was very friendly. We did the partial AI and found some very good food and the bars were great too. Personally, we did not like anything about St. Martin (either side).

I agree with all above. St. Martin was a bore based on visits in 2005 on a Wind Spirit cruise (so had no choice) and our first trip in 2001 on a time share exchange from our ownership of a Four Seasons unit. Can you believe we went to St. Martin from La Jolla, we could not. Food was generally marginal, sight seeing was limited with a few art galleries but not many fine artists, notmany interesting historic sights no natural beauty in terms of lush greenery, etc. Somee nice beaches, very poor snorkeling and limited shopping if you are into that on vacation.
St. Lucia has several good dining, beautiful scenery, some very nice beaches but not great, some adequate snorkeling but not like St. John or North End of GC or West End of Curacau or a few spots on Bonaire. Ambience is more pleasurable overall. The Pistons are interesting and hiking is fun if you are into that activity and more of a social scene at night if you want to seek that out.
