I had heard great things about St. Lucia when I vacationed in Dominica a few years ago. Recently I stumbled across the Jalouise resort and am in love!

While I need a vacation right now the winter rates are more than I want to spend but I see that the rates come down dramatically in the summer. The question is, what is St. Lucia like in the summer? Is the climate too hot for summer travel or does it enjoy a moderate summer?

I messed up my Xmas vacation because I didn't have time to plan anything because of several work and personal crises and am deeply regretting it and want to get a jump on next year! TIA!

Hi Minooka, I have been in Sept and it is warm, but I think it has pretty much the same climate all year round due to the location. Typically "low season" will be April 15-Dec 15, avoiding holidays and island festival dates. Have a great time, it is a beautiful island with friendly people, art, and good food. The views are spectacular.

Minooka, we went this past fall during the first week of September. As Wednesday says, rates are much lower then and not as crowded. We stayed at the Windjammer Landing. Our villa, being open air, was a git muggy, but the bedroom was enclosed and well airconditioned, so we did fine. The Jalouise resort is on a mountain (I think) so you should have fine breezes and not be bothered by the heat. So, here's another vote for off season travel!

It may be a bit warmer, and more humid in the summer, but generally weather is fine (maybe more late day rain that doesn't last long). You should know that summer is hurrican season, so that is a possibility. The earlier in the summer the better, as the peak of hurricane season is August/September.

Thanks for the speedy replies! I thought everyone would be doing holiday stuff and I'd have to repost.

I am aware of hurricane season and I will make sure I have hurricane insurance. (That's exactly my luck!). I did look up the weather on weather.com and it's comparable to the weather here in Atlanta and while a nice winter vacation would be great my wallet would much prefer a lower cost alternative right now.

As for off season travel... here! here! I'm going to try to go to Prague this winter despite my aversion to winter months. I hate crowds!

Minooka, I'm like you; I need the off--season! I was in Germany in the middle of winter once, and there was a real beauty about it. Cold, to be sure, but the sun setting over the snow, or peaking through the winter clouds was a delight. I don't think you'll regret your travel choices and times of year.

I was married and honeymooned in St. Lucia in July 2002. Being Canadian, I was worried about being overwhelmed by the heat and humidity, but was pleasantly surprised that even though the days were 32-35 degrees celsius (about 90 degrees farenheit), the combination of the ocean breeze, the resort pool and air conditioning at night, made for a very comfortable stay. Out of our two week stay, I really only noticed the humidity twice.

Go and have a good time. St. Lucia is a beautiful island and the St. Lucians could not have been more warm and welcoming.

N doubt you already have the answers you need from the above posts, but here's my two bits. My stay at Jalousie in July 2001 was terrific. As a native Mississippian, it was much more pleasant on St. Lucia during the summer than in my hometown! We had brief afternoon showers each day that lasted anywhere from 5-30 minutes that were perfect for a brief cooling off. The villas at Jalousie are air conditioned so sleeping was quite comfortable. The plunge pools are a great way to start the day there. Beach was lovely, if a bit intimate, and the water was very clear for good snorkeling. I hope you have a fabulous time. Two recommendations for you: leave the resort at least one night for dinner at Ladera's restaurant called Dasheen, and go in time for sunset. Also, get a ride to the spa area one evening and watch the sunset from the hotel's jacuzzi.
