St Kitts Vs. Nevis Comments?

I'm thinking about a trip to the St Kitts Nevis area. The Four Seasons sounds nice but
the quiet of St Kitts is appealing. Ottley's on St Kitts sounds great but a little removed. Any comments?

Also any comments on a good dive shop on either island. We're novices and like careful dive masters. Thanks for the information.
I just returned from St. Kitts, but did not have the time to see Nevis. From what I've heard, Nevis is much more quiet than St. Kitts. St. Kitts is extremely beautiful. Ottley's is pretty removed and you would have to either rent a car, taxi, or take a bus into town. From town, you would have to take a taxi to the beach. If you stay in Frigate Bay, you will still have to either rent a car or take a taxi anywhere else. It really depends on what kind of environment you prefer. I prefer staying in town, taking buses or a taxi to the beach, instead of staying in the resort areas. You can always stay in St. Kitts and take the ferry to Nevis to see which island you prefer. I'd be happy to answer any other questions you may have.
Amy:
Thank you for your response. Looking at a map I can see what you mean about Ottley's being remote. Any information that you would care to share about St. Kitts would be helpful. I thinking of a trip for my wife and I.

Thanks.
J. Faulconer

Jim,

I'd be happy to share more information with you about St. Kitts, but it would be nice if you could be a little more specific about what you're looking for, whether you plan to rent a car, would you prefer being close to the beach, etc.

Amy,
I am considering going to St.Kitts in mid '98 on my honeymoon. I am concerned about safety, crime, poverty, etc. What can you tell me about this aspect of St. Kitts?
Rick
Jim,

I felt preety safe in St. Kitts, however, like anywhere in the Caribbean or the States for that matter, you must take normal precautions. Although poverty exists as in any Caribbean country, I don't think it should be a major concern of yours in terms of safety. I did not feel threatened or frightened in any way, and the many locals I talked to felt that I had no need to be overly concerned. Of course, some are less safe than others, but I doubt that you would be in those residential areas which may pose more of a risk. The people were wonderful and I felt quite safe. If you have anymore questions, please e-mail me.

Of all the islands I have travelled to, St. Kitts was the only one I returned to three times. It is a lovely, quiet island with friendly people and great scenery. I travelled there each time on my own and did not feel unsafe at any time, although I would suggest that you take the same safety precautions as you would at home.

The Four Seasons on Nevis is an absolutely gorgeous property, but very costly. If I could afford it, I would definitely stay there. Nevis is a lovely, quiet island. It takes one back in time.

Either St. Kitts or Nevis would be a good choice. Please e-mail me if you have any specific questions.

Laura

Our first trip to the Caribbean was to Jack Tar in St. Kitts and we had a lovely time - the people on the island are very friendly. Unfortunately Jack Tar is not directly on a beach so if that's a prerequisite look elsewhere, but if it's not a requirement then think about it. Absolutely lovely resort with great food, accomodations are nice, etc. write if you have any more questions
Jim: My husband and I were in St. Kitts in November of 1997, even though it seems like yesterday. We were trying to contact some divers before our trip but were unsuccessful. We decided to go anyway and had a wonderful time. The island is one of the most beautiful islands I have ever seen. The beaches are kind of non-existant and the sand is black so it gives the water a rather dark appearance. From a diving perspective, we had a really good experience with Kenneth's Dive shop on St. Kitts. Kenneth has been diving for 40 years and he is a pro. His boats are comfortable and his staff friendly. They spear fish right off the coast so alot of the larger fish are gone. We were still able to have some really memorable dives though especially our night dive. With the eruption of Montserrat volcano the ash falling into the water has lead to a drop in the visibility but I would say it is around 50-60 feet, unlike some of the other islands we have been to. The water is calm and the dive sights are pretty close to shore. You should have a really great time. We stayed at the Bird Rock hotel which was really out of the way but rented a car for the island tour and did a safari into the rain forest that was really great. We went with Greg's tours. He did an excellent job. Have a great trip. Fran
Well, I just had to add my two cents!
My husband and I stayed at Ottley's and although it is a little more remote, it was gorgeous and very relaxing!
If you are looking to be entertained and busy, perhaps this is not the place to go. If however you are looking to be pampered, to enjoy gourmet meals, and the wonderful attention to detail that makes you feel like royalty - then Ottley's is great.
We would recommend renting a car, though. That way you can sightsee at your own pace. It seems no matter where you stay on St. Kitts, you will need to take a taxi or bus.

The package we had included all of our breakfasts, 5 dinners, a catamarran trip to Nevis, a private guided tour and Sunday brunch. They have rainforest trails to hike and plenty of great spots to sit and relax. We had plenty to do! If you would like more info, please contact me.
