St. Kitts or Nevis

Well, it looks like my summer plans are changing, and instead of visiting both islands I have to pick one, so my options are St. Kitts's Marriott, OR Four seasons Nevis, either one for 5-7 nights... any thoughts?

thanks :)

oops I hit send too soon, I meant to add that my Husband is pretty active, and I like to read a couple of books by the pool & beach, we both like to snorkel, and most likely want to hire a driver to tour the island instead of renting a car (which we usually do)...we have been to Aruba, Bahamas, Curacao, and St. Lucia

thanks again,
Ruby

There are, perhaps, more places to see and things to do on St Kitts.
(more apparent attractions)
If you are inclined to get off a resort and see what an island has to offer, then you may choose St Kitts.
If only a single day out and exploring, then Nevis.
You can also take day trips to either island via the numerous ferries that go between the two islands several times a day.

There is more to do in St. Kitts. Nevis is quieter.

Ruby - well you cannot really compare FS and the Marriott. The FS is much much nicer. The service, food, amenities, rooms, everything about it is nicer as it is a luxury resort whereas the Marriott is not. I really prefer Nevis over St Kitts. When you look at islands overall, if there is a big and smaller island next to each other, St Thomas -St John, St Martin, St Barths, St Kitts, Nevis, etc. the smaller one is normally quieter and prettier, less built up and fewer problems. Just my 2 cents. You will find plently to do on Nevis. I really do not know people to be bored on vacation there!

Ruby - I also meant to ask which island of the ones you have visited you have liked the best. St Kitts could be more like those than Nevis as they are pretty large places.

The St Kitts Marriott is nice, but its huge. I guess it just depends on whether you want a huge resort or one that is 196 rooms to stay in...

doug_stallings May 31st, 2005 06:16 AM

The first thing that comes to mine for me is the disparity in the relative levels of luxury between these two resorts. The St. Kitts Marriott is a large, decidedly middle-of-the-road resort hotel on a fair but not great beach; the Four Seasons is one of the Caribbean's grandest, most expensive, and most luxurious resorts. There's really no comparison in terms of luxury, service, and amenities (or cost, for that matter). Nevis is certainly a much smaller island than St. Kitts, which has more activities. Nevis has some good walks, but there's not that much to see on an island tour, though you'd certainly enjoy dinners are some of the lovely plantation inns. If your husband plays golf, the Four Seasons has one of the Caribbean's best courses; the course on St. Kitts is fine but not stupdendous. Snorkeling at Pinneys Beach (where the Four Seasons is) is good.

Thanks everybody. My favorite island so far is Aruba, so I do realize this is going to be a very different kind of vacation ;)

I actually have gotten a great rate at the FS, only a few dollars more than the Marriott (simply a mountain side view tho)

I have never been to a FS property before, but have been to several Marriotts

You what? You have a chance to stay at the Four Seasons for a few dollars more than the Marriott? You should definitely opt for the Four Seasons! You can always go to the Marriott some other trip. Like editor Doug says: the Four Seasons is one of the most luxurious resorts in the Caribbean. And like Santa says: you can still visit St. Kitts for a daytrip.

lizpereira May 31st, 2005 09:21 AM

I second the Four Seasons. :)

doug_stallings Jun 3rd, 2005 04:51 AM

The only downside to a stay at the Four Seasons is the high prices in the restaurants there. But you can escape to much more reasonable places to eat if you want, so that's not a big problem from my point of view. Please send us a trip report and let us know how you enjoyed the resort ... and being spritzed with Evian beside the pool.

Thanks everyone! I think we will def. stay at the FS and add the Marriott if possible... I will post a report when we get back in August :)

Caribruby - well I Hope you have a wonderful trip! Be sure to fill us in when you return. I am sure you will love it.

Isn't it possible to just do a day trip to St. Kitts from Nevis? That seems the best of both worlds to me...

CR: What special rate is that? Is it open to the public, or some special personal discount?

Santa Jun 5th, 2005 07:40 AM

A day trip from Nevis to St Kitts is VERY easy.
Multiple ferries make multiple trips every day.
Taxis are everywhere.
Get an idea of what it is that you want to do on St Kitts, get on a ferry and go.
If it is shopping around Basseterre, you won't even need a taxi upon arriving on St Kitts.
The downtown is less than a 5 minute walk.
From downtown (the Circus as it is called) if you decide that, after shopping and lunch, that you want to go to a beach, it is easy to get a taxi and go..............
Tell the taxi to pick you up in time for the last ferry back to Nevis.
Ferry time is about 45 minutes between islands.
ITS EASY!!
